Disney Vacation Club has been around for nearly 30 years, and it is perfect for diehard Disney fans who also love to travel. Disney Vacation Club is a vacation timeshare program where members can purchase points to stay not only at Walt Disney World Resort, but they can also go on Disney cruises and travel to exotic locations like France, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Ecuador, and more!
When the program first started in 1996, Disney offered the “Magical Beginnings” promotion in order to make a Disney Vacation Club membership seem more affordable to those interested in possibly purchasing. “Magical Beginnings” allowed buyers to sell back their first year’s worth of points to Disney Vacation Club for an approximately $10 per point discount.
DVC Membership took off and Disney decided to sunset the program in 2009. Disney Vacation Club has continued to thrive, and more locations have opened up, including one at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Oahu. Aulani opened in 2011 and was immediately a part of the Disney Vacation Club, much to the delight of DVC members.
Unfortunately, Disney Vacation Club, and its members, took a major hit when the world shut down due to the pandemic. Many countries were not allowing any travelers, and for those that were, many were hesitant to travel with COVID-19 spreading rapidly across the globe. Disney Vacation Club shut down most of its locations, many of which remained closed even after places like Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort reopened.
With everything going on and uncertainty about travel still high, DVC has chosen to bring back its “Magical Beginnings” program. DVCNews shared just how the revival of this program will work for both new and existing members:
Now it has been revived again to help sell points at Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. New or current members adding 150 or more points at Aulani can forego their first year’s worth of points in exchange for a rebate of $10 per point.
This rebate comes in addition to current incentive pricing which discounts a purchase of 300 points by a rather stunning $58 each for new buyers and $68 for existing members. With a base price of $201 per point, this incentive could take the effective cost of a 300-point add-on all the way down to $123 each for a contract that runs through January 2062. Note that this pricing is due to change on December 15, 2021.
Buyers exercising this option would lose their first year of points. Exact terms will vary depending upon the exact Use Year of the points. Some Annual Dues may still be payable by the owner, however they are typically proated based upon the date of purchase. Most buyers exercising this option would be selling back their 2021 points while paying little-to-no dues for the 2021 calendar year.
It is important to note that the “Magical Beginnings” promotion applies ONLY to those members who purchased or will purchase points to stay at Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas. It will not apply to any other Disney Vacation Club location at this time.
