The Hocus Pocus Film Franchise

First debuting in 1993, Hocus Pocus is a family-friendly film released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film slowly but surely gained a cult following with its ever-increasing popularity around the fall and Halloween seasons.

The movie takes place in Salem, Massachusetts… the perfect setting for its witch-themed storyline featuring the sisters Winifred Sanderson (Bette Midler), Mary Sanderson (Kathy Najimy), and Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker). The Sanderson Sisters are determined to regain their youth and wreak havoc on Salem. Max, Dani, and Allison work together to stop the witches and save their hometown.

The film has grown so much in popularity that Disney released a sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, in 2022 on Disney+. Two young women, Izzy (Belissa Escobedo) and Becca (Whitney Peak), accidentally bring back the Sanderson Sisters to modern-day Salem after Becca lights a Black Flame candle. Now, they and their friend Cassie (Lilia Buckingham) must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world.
