Earlier this year, the entertainment industry was left in dismay as news broke of actor Jonathan Majors’ arrest in New York City. Known as a talented actor and a star within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Majors’ arrest sent shockwaves through Hollywood.
Since the incident took place, Marvel fans have been waiting to see if the company would decide to discard Majors’ from the MCU. Now, fans finally have their answer after an executive producer revealed his stance.
Majors’ Arrest Backs Marvel Into a Corner
On a fateful Saturday night in New York City, actor Jonathan Majors found himself at the center of a domestic dispute that quickly escalated. According to witness testimony and police reports, a heated argument between Mr. Majors and his girlfriend turned violent. The New York Police Department responded to the disturbance, subsequently placing the actor under arrest and taking him into custody.
Following the arrest, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office pressed charges against Jonathan Majors. He now faces an array of misdemeanor charges, including aggravated harassment and assault. These charges, if proven in court, could tarnish the actor’s reputation and potentially lead to severe consequences. However, nothing has been proven as of now, which has left Majors’ career in a precarious place.
As news of Jonathan Majors’ arrest reverberated through the entertainment industry, many wondered how this incident might impact his burgeoning career. His highly anticipated debut as villain Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was one of the most talked-about casting decisions of the year. His performance received rave reviews, and many were excited to see the character develop.
Kang the Conqueror is a significant part of Marvel’s upcoming future, and losing the character’s actor could be a detrimental loss.
‘Loki’ Executive Producer Defends Casting Decision
As Jonathan’s case continues to be investigated, his upcoming involvement in season two of the Marvel show Loki has shocked some fans. The eight-episode season, which stars Tom Hiddleston in the titular role, is set to premiere on October 5, 2023. Jonathan Majors will indeed be in the show.
In an interview with Variety, executive producer Kevin Wright talked about the upcoming season as well as the controversial choice to keep Majors’ in the cast. Variety asked Wright:
“It’s clear that Majors plays an integral role this season, and you just alluded that Marvel usually does additional photography on all its titles. So was there any discussion about making changes to the show, given the uncertainty about what was happening with Majors?”
Wright responded, saying:
“No. And that mainly came from — I know as much as you do at the moment. It felt hasty to do anything without knowing how all of this plays out.”
While the choice to keep Majors on board is shocking to many fans, it does seem like a safe choice for Marvel. Due to the fact that nothing has been confirmed in Majors’ case, firing him would feel like they were jumping the gun quite a bit. For now, it seems like a safe play to wait until the case is closed before any terminations are made.
While the future of Jonathan Majors’ career is still very much up in the air, it would seem that he is safe for now. Only time will tell what is to come for the actor and his role as Kang in the MCU. Many fans will be eagerly tuning in to catch the highly anticipated season two of Loki, which will stream on Disney+.
