Universal Closes Theme Park to Brace for Hurricane; All Vacations Cancelled

In a shocking announcement, Orlando Resort has revealed that its popular water park, Volcano Bay, will be closed on Thursday, September 26, as Tropical Storm Helene approaches the area. Beloved Theme Park Shuts Doors and Braces for Impact

Nestled within the expansive Universal Orlando Resort, Volcano Bay offers guests a unique blend of thrilling water attractions and a stunning tropical environment. Since its grand opening in 2017, this water theme park has quickly become a favorite destination for families and adventure seekers alike.

At the heart of Volcano Bay is the iconic Krakatau, a towering volcano that serves as both a centerpiece and a hub for the park’s attractions.

The park features a variety of slides and rides, ranging from the exhilarating Ko’okiri Body Plunge—where guests plunge down a near-vertical drop—to the family-friendly wave pool, Waturi Beach. With over 18 attractions, including lazy rivers and high-speed slides, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Unfortunately, guests hoping to enjoy this water theme park will have to postpone their vacation. For Universal Orlando Resort, the safety of guests and staff is the top priority, prompting the temporary closure in anticipation of the storm, which has now turned into a hurricane.

As of now, the remainder of Universal Orlando Resort remains operational, with other attractions and experiences available as planned. However, this could change as the resort further monitors the incoming storm.

Hurricane Helene Arrives in Florida

These kinds of storm closures are not rare for Orlando-based resorts like Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort. As of now, it is looking like the Walt Disney World Resort water park, Typhoon Lagoon, will close as well.

Hurricane Helene is forecasted to bring inclement weather, including heavy rain and gusty winds, prompting the precautionary measures. Guests planning to visit Volcano Bay are encouraged to monitor weather updates and check the park’s official website for the latest information on the reopening. As of now, the park should reopen on Friday, September 27.
