After the success of Universal Studios Hollywood’s studio tour and accompanying attractions added in the 1960s and ’70s, the company turned its sights towards Orlando, Florida, already the site of its popular rival, the Walt Disney World Resort. Today, the Universal Orlando Resort boasts three impressive parks, with Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure offering high-end experiences via themed lands like The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Moreover, with the introduction of Universal’s Epic Universe, the Florida spot will welcome an all-new third theme Park gate in 2025 that will expand upon the existing Wizarding World lands, as well as bring SUPER NINTENDO WORLD to the East Coast. However, Universal currently offers Guests a third theme park, which is at its most popular during the summer months: the Volcano Bay water park.

As described on the Universal website, Guests can “make waves” at the “water theme park, which is like a theme park with a whole lotta water.” Plus, the “South Seas oasis” has an impressive volcano icon which includes its own water slide. First opened in 2017, for six years now, the area has cooled off Guests through excitements like Puihi of the Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides, the Krakatau Aqua Coaster, and 125-foot Ko’okiri Body Plunge thrill ride, featuring a 70-degree freefall.
Additionally, Universal’s Volcano Bay includes more family-friendly attractions as well as regular pool-style locations such as the wave pool, outdoor lounge, private cabanas, and winding river. Unfortunately, a new announcement will disappoint Guests hoping to enjoy the Park this week, as Volcano Bay will close on Monday, March 20, 2023, as a result of low temperatures within the state of Florida.
