
Disney On Ice is taking us behind the scenes of their new show! Two of Disney animation’s most recent mega box office hits, Frozen (2013) and Encanto (2021) come together on ice skates for a brand-new magical offering.
In the sneak peek video entitled “Making of Frozen & Encanto,” producer Juliette Feld Grossman immediately recognizes the high bar of adapting academy-award-winning films for the ice rink. While Disney On Ice has portrayed Frozen for years, Encanto is making its skating debut. Act I is Frozen, and Encanto will be Act II. Go behind the scenes here:
How did they connect the two stories? On the surface, director Adam Loosley recognizes how visually and musically different the two films are. From the looks of it, characters for either world share similar choreography even though the dance styles are so contrasting.
Disney On Ice gives audiences a sneak peek at gigantic and colorful sets. It shows us the difference in lighting design for cold scenes versus vibrant. Audiences also get a glimpse at the beautiful costume design. Did anyone else love the donkey for Luisa’s ‘Pressure’ number from Encanto?
Costume designer Dawna Oak speaks about the importance of getting the ‘real’ elements right, such as cultural aspects and geographical details. Frozen is set in a fictitious Arendelle based on Norwegian culture, while Encanto takes place in a Colombian-inspired magical town of the same name.
