Disney On Ice is taking us behind the scenes of their new show! Two of Disney animation’s most recent mega box office hits, Frozen (2013) and Encanto (2021) come together on ice skates for a brand-new magical offering.

In the sneak peek video entitled “Making of Frozen & Encanto,” producer Juliette Feld Grossman immediately recognizes the high bar of adapting academy-award-winning films for the ice rink. While Disney On Ice has portrayed Frozen for years, Encanto is making its skating debut. Act I is Frozen, and Encanto will be Act II. Go behind the scenes here:

How did they connect the two stories? On the surface, director Adam Loosley recognizes how visually and musically different the two films are. From the looks of it, characters for either world share similar choreography even though the dance styles are so contrasting.

Disney On Ice gives audiences a sneak peek at gigantic and colorful sets. It shows us the difference in lighting design for cold scenes versus vibrant. Audiences also get a glimpse at the beautiful costume design. Did anyone else love the donkey for Luisa’s ‘Pressure’ number from Encanto?

Costume designer Dawna Oak speaks about the importance of getting the ‘real’ elements right, such as cultural aspects and geographical details. Frozen is set in a fictitious Arendelle based on Norwegian culture, while Encanto takes place in a Colombian-inspired magical town of the same name.

About Lana Porter

Lana has never lost a Disney Trivia night. Maybe it’s the hundreds of times she’s been to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, her love for Disney’s ’90’s era hand-animated musicals, or the fact that she’s often likened to cartoon characters, but Disney and its magic have a special place in her heart. Her favorite Disney experiences include the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, eating Mickey Bars on the PeopleMover, and crying during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. One day she hopes to be chosen as the rebel spy on Star Tours. When Lana isn’t Park Hopping, she’s at home reading books of all topics, watching her favs on Disney+, or snuggling her two cats, which she swears are not named after Disney characters. She loves surprising people with her knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but admits she is still catching up with Star Wars. She is happy to combine her excitement for writing with her love for Disney-style storytelling and share what she can with the world!
