Disney Plus had invested in and canceled a handful of shows on its platform that failed to garner audience acclaim. Some examples include National Treasure: Edge of History, Turner and Hootch, Game Changers, The Mysterious Benedict Society, Diary of a Future President, Big Shot, and The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
As of May 24, 2023, a new highly-anticipated series debuted on the platform, and viewers are already loving it. American Born Chinese is listed as a coming of age, comedy, fantasy, and adventure in which high schooler Jin battles not only his personal demons, but also mythological gods! The star-studded cast features Everything Everywhere All At Once actors Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan (also of Indiana Jones), and Stephanie Hsu.

Ben Wang plays Jin Wang, the protagonist of this graphic novel adaptation. It showcases Chinese culture amongst his American struggle to find his place. The show combines elements of Kung Fu, an essence of Anime, and family-driven Disney magic known to the brand. American Born Chinese ominously begins “The Jade Emporor has peacefully ruled the Heavenly Realm for millennia. But the Bull Demon has mounted an uprising…”
