If you’re planning a trip to Universal Studios Florida this week, don’t be surprised if your wait for Revenge of the Mummy starts outside instead of inside.
Guests have begun noticing an extended outdoor queue set up in front of the popular indoor roller coaster, complete with temporary tents and switchback queue rails. While Universal hasn’t explained the reason behind the change, longtime Halloween Horror Nights fans think they know exactly what’s happening.

Every summer, the resort begins preparing for its biggest event of the year, and Revenge of the Mummy often plays an important role in that process.
A Familiar Sight for Returning Guests

Fans quickly pointed out that this setup has appeared before when Universal begins converting the attraction’s extended queue into space for the annual Halloween Horror Nights Tribute Store.
Universal has yet to confirm that’s what’s happening this year, but the timing certainly lines up with previous seasons.
As Halloween Horror Nights gets closer, more construction activity typically becomes visible throughout Universal Studios Florida. Temporary lighting, themed decorations, and event infrastructure gradually begin appearing as crews prepare the park for one of the world’s largest Halloween events.
Revenge of the Mummy Isn’t Going Anywhere
The good news is that the attraction itself remains open.
Guests can still experience Revenge of the Mummy just as they normally would. The only noticeable difference is where the line begins.

That may not sound like a major change, but during a Florida summer, spending additional time outdoors is something guests should keep in mind. Bringing water, wearing lightweight clothing, and planning indoor attractions during the hottest hours of the afternoon can make a big difference.
Fortunately, once riders enter the show building, the experience itself hasn’t changed.
The attraction continues to combine dark ride storytelling with high-speed coaster elements, practical effects, animatronics, and one of Universal Orlando’s most memorable launches.
Even after more than 20 years, it’s still considered one of the resort’s signature attractions.
Halloween Horror Nights Preparations Continue
The Tribute Store has become almost as anticipated as the haunted houses themselves.
Each year, Universal creates an immersive shopping experience filled with themed rooms, exclusive merchandise, detailed scenery, and countless hidden references for fans to discover. Because of its popularity, constructing the experience takes weeks of preparation before guests ever step inside.
Using Revenge of the Mummy’s extended queue area has become part of that seasonal transformation in previous years, allowing crews to build much of the experience while the attraction continues welcoming riders.
If that’s happening again this year, it shows just how much work goes into bringing Halloween Horror Nights to life.
More Changes Are Likely Coming
As opening night draws closer, guests can expect to see even more signs that Halloween Horror Nights is taking over Universal Studios Florida.
Construction walls will likely continue appearing, themed elements may begin popping up around the park, and excitement will only continue growing.

For now, the outdoor queue at Revenge of the Mummy serves as one of the clearest indications that Halloween season is officially on Universal’s radar.
Whether you’re visiting for daytime attractions or planning to attend Halloween Horror Nights later this year, it’s another reminder that one of Universal Orlando’s biggest annual traditions is almost here.
