Planning a Universal Orlando vacation in 2026 may require a little more preparation than it did just a year ago. The resort continues to evolve following the successful debut of Epic Universe, and several new policies and operational changes are already affecting how guests experience the parks.

Some updates involve attractions, while others change ticket options, parking, and even the technology used throughout the resort. None of these changes are necessarily bad, but they could catch visitors by surprise if they aren’t paying attention before their trip.
Here’s a roundup of the biggest changes happening across Universal Orlando in 2026.
Hagrid’s Loses Express Pass Access
Perhaps the biggest surprise for longtime Universal visitors is the removal of Express Pass from Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
The attraction has consistently ranked among the busiest rides at Islands of Adventure, often posting some of the resort’s longest waits. Guests previously had the option to use Express Pass on the coaster, but that is no longer available.

Everyone now enters through the standby queue, making arrival time even more important for anyone hoping to ride without spending hours in line.
Fortunately, other Wizarding World attractions nearby still participate in Express Pass, so only Hagrid’s has changed.
Epic Universe Tickets Offer More Freedom
When Epic Universe welcomed its first guests, admission options were fairly limited.
Universal has since expanded those offerings with new multi-day packages that include Epic Universe alongside Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.

The additional flexibility gives guests a chance to spend more than a single day exploring Universal’s newest park without sacrificing time elsewhere.
For many visitors, that’s a welcome improvement considering the size of Epic Universe and the number of attractions spread across its themed worlds.
Volcano Bay Will Be Closed This Winter
Guests planning a fall or winter vacation should also keep Volcano Bay in mind.
The water park is scheduled to close on October 26 for an extended refurbishment lasting until early April 2027.

Because Volcano Bay normally operates throughout much of the year, this lengthy closure could affect families who traditionally visit during cooler months expecting all Universal parks to remain available.
Checking refurbishment schedules before booking could prevent an unexpected disappointment.
Halloween Horror Nights Gets a Parking Change
Universal has also updated one of the most popular perks for Halloween Horror Nights visitors.
In past years, guests arriving after midnight could often avoid paying for parking altogether.
That policy has now changed.

Parking fees will remain in place until 2:00 a.m., meaning everyone attending Halloween Horror Nights should expect to include parking costs in their overall budget.
While it may seem like a small adjustment, it’s another expense guests will want to account for before arriving.
New Technology Could Change How Guests Enter Epic Universe
Universal also appears to be preparing for larger crowds inside Epic Universe.
The resort recently expanded information surrounding its Photo Validation system, which already allows guests to verify tickets through facial recognition.
The newest update suggests Photo Validation could eventually be used at the portals leading into each themed land whenever Virtual Line systems become necessary.
Although Universal hasn’t announced plans to require Virtual Lines throughout the park, the update indicates the company is preparing tools that could help manage attendance during especially busy periods.
Universal Keeps Evolving
Universal Orlando rarely stays the same for long, and 2026 continues that trend.
New ticket options make Epic Universe easier to experience, while operational updates are changing how guests navigate attractions and seasonal events. At the same time, scheduled refurbishments and new crowd management strategies show Universal is planning well beyond Epic Universe’s opening year.
If you’re visiting later this year, spending a few minutes reviewing these updates before your trip could help you avoid unexpected surprises once you arrive.
