3 Major ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Heroes Confirmed to Return for Marvel’s Next Phase
Marvel may have wrapped up the original Guardians of the Galaxy story, but fans just received a reminder that some of the franchise’s biggest heroes aren’t finished yet.
While the team hasn’t appeared together since their last adventure, recent announcements have confirmed that Rocket, Groot, and Star-Lord still have futures within Marvel’s larger universe. Their paths may be heading in different directions, but all signs point to these fan favorites remaining part of Marvel’s plans moving forward.
How Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Changed Everything
When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) arrived in theaters, many viewers expected an emotional farewell that would come with major losses.
Instead, Marvel surprised audiences by allowing every core member of the team to survive. Rather than ending their stories, the film opened the door to entirely new chapters.
Peter Quill returned to Earth to reconnect with his family. Drax and Nebula stayed behind on Knowhere to help build a better future, while Mantis chose to strike out on her own. Gamora continued her journey with the Ravagers after finding her place outside the team.
At the same time, Rocket Raccoon stepped into a leadership role and formed a new Guardians lineup. By the time the credits rolled, Marvel had clearly left room for more stories.

Rocket and Groot Already Have Their Next Adventure
Although Marvel Studios has not revealed when the Guardians will return in live-action projects, Rocket and Groot already have confirmed appearances ahead of them.
The duo recently resurfaced through animated content tied to Meet Spidey and His Amazing Friends. These appearances introduce younger audiences to the beloved characters before they take on a larger role in the Disney Jr. series.
The upcoming “Rescue-Webs” storyline will unite Rocket and Groot with Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Gwen Stacy. Season 5 premieres on July 13 and marks the first major new appearance for the pair in years.
While these versions are separate from the MCU characters fans know from the movies, their inclusion shows that Marvel continues to keep Rocket and Groot active across multiple projects.

Star-Lord’s Future Remains a Mystery
Rocket and Groot have confirmed destinations, but Star-Lord’s future remains less clear.
At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Marvel delivered one final surprise. A closing message promised that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.”
That statement immediately fueled speculation. Fans began debating whether Peter Quill would receive another solo adventure, join a future Avengers team, or appear in a completely different project.
Marvel has not provided an answer, but it has not backed away from that promise either. As a result, the character remains one of the MCU’s biggest unanswered questions.
Chris Pratt Still Sees More Star-Lord Ahead
The longer Star-Lord remained absent, the more some fans wondered whether Marvel’s plans had changed.
However, Chris Pratt recently indicated that the character’s story is still expected to continue.
That doesn’t automatically mean Star-Lord will be in every major Marvel event on the horizon. Many fans believe he could remain on the sidelines during portions of the Multiverse Saga while Marvel focuses on other heroes and storylines.
Still, Pratt’s comments serve as another reminder that Peter Quill has not been forgotten.

The Guardians Could Have Another Chapter Ahead
Marvel’s cosmic side may eventually become more important once the current saga concludes.
Some fans believe future stories after Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) could create opportunities for Rocket’s new Guardians team to return. Even if a direct fourth Guardians film never happens, the characters could easily appear in crossover projects or other cosmic adventures.
With Marvel also preparing to bring the X-Men into the spotlight, competition for screen time will be intense. Even so, Rocket, Groot, and Star-Lord remain valuable parts of Marvel’s larger universe.
For now, Marvel has confirmed that these three heroes still have stories left to tell. Exactly where those stories lead remains unknown, but the Guardians’ legacy is clearly far from over.
