Disney’s Hollywood Studios Hits “Rock Bottom” as 4 Critical Issues Spark Outrage
There’s no shortage of reasons to visit this Walt Disney World park, but there are also some growing reasons guests may think twice.
There are major rides, popular shows, characters, and entire areas that can easily become vacation priorities. But experiencing all of that in a single day is another story.
For guests visiting right now, Hollywood Studios can demand more planning than they might expect. Several challenges are hitting at the same time, and each one can affect how much visitors actually accomplish.
That doesn’t make Hollywood Studios a bad park. However, four issues are making a day there increasingly complicated, helping explain why some Disney fans could consider it the “worst” Walt Disney World park to visit right now.
Hollywood Studios Is in a Transition Period
One of the biggest challenges is impossible to overlook: Hollywood Studios is preparing for another major expansion.
Disney is developing Monstropolis, a Monsters, Inc.-inspired land scheduled to begin opening in phases in 2027. The project will eventually bring another major destination to the park, including the suspended door-vault coaster.
That could help Hollywood Studios in the long run by expanding its attraction lineup and creating another area where crowds can spread out.
Getting there requires construction first.
Hollywood Studios already has a layout that can make navigating the park feel awkward at times. Adding a major construction project creates another challenge for guests visiting during this transition period.
Eventually, visitors will get the benefits. Today’s guests have to deal with the wait.

Showtimes Can Control Your Day
Construction isn’t the only reason guests may need a strategy.
Hollywood Studios also requires visitors to watch the clock because several entertainment options operate on schedules that don’t necessarily stretch until park closing.
That can completely change how guests approach their day.
Instead of spending the morning and afternoon riding attractions before saving shows for later, visitors may need to organize rides around available performance times.
A manageable attraction wait might appear at the same time guests need to cross the park to get to a show. Skip that performance, and the final showtime could pass before they get another opportunity.
Families trying to fit rides, entertainment, characters, and meals into one day can quickly discover that Hollywood Studios requires plenty of decisions.
Those decisions become even harder when wait times come into play.

Popular Attractions Create Another Decision
Hollywood Studios has several major rides that can take a sizable chunk out of the day.
Slinky Dog Dash remains one of the park’s popular attractions. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance can require a significant time commitment when standby waits climb, while Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets gives guests another major attraction to fit into their plans.
Lightning Lane can make navigating those attractions easier, but it comes at an additional cost.
Guests aren’t required to purchase Lightning Lane access. Standby remains available where offered, allowing visitors to experience attractions without paying extra if they’re willing to wait.
The difficulty comes when guests want to accomplish as much as possible.
Spending a long time in one standby line doesn’t just affect the next ride. It could also mean missing a scheduled show elsewhere in the park.
For families already spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a Disney vacation, the feeling that another purchase could make the day easier may add another layer of frustration.
And during the holidays, time can become even more important.

Jollywood Nights Adds Another Complication
Disney Jollywood Nights brings separately ticketed holiday entertainment to Hollywood Studios on select nights.
For guests buying tickets to the event, that’s part of the fun. Regular daytime visitors have a different consideration.
Event nights mean guests need to pay especially close attention to operating hours before choosing their Hollywood Studios date.
That matters for families with limited park days. Selecting a Jollywood Nights date without realizing how the event affects the regular operating schedule could leave them with less daytime park time than anticipated.
Suddenly, simply picking the right date becomes another piece of the planning process.

Four Problems Collide at Once
None of these issues alone makes Hollywood Studios a park worth avoiding.
The challenge comes from dealing with all four simultaneously.
Guests are navigating construction while watching show schedules, managing waits at popular attractions, considering Lightning Lane, and checking whether a separately ticketed event affects their visit.
Some of those challenges should ease as Disney completes new projects and adds attractions.
Until then, preparation matters. Guests should check park hours and showtimes, decide which attractions matter most, and determine whether a special event falls on their planned date.
Hollywood Studios still offers plenty of reasons to visit. Right now, though, experiencing everything guests want may require nearly as much planning as the vacation itself.
