Walt Disney World is preparing to close Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie at Disney’s Hollywood Studios again, barely a month after the Mickey Shorts Theater experience returned to operation. The Disney World Vacation Fun closure is scheduled to begin October 28, 2026, according to the operating-calendar change reported October 2, leaving guests without the attraction as Disney heads into its holiday season.
The timing is notable. Disney Jollywood Nights begins November 7, and the Mickey Shorts Theater was also taken out of regular operation during the 2025 holiday period, when its exit area was used for Jollywood Nights merchandise. Disney has not publicly stated that the 2026 closure is specifically for Jollywood Nights, so that connection remains based on last year’s operational pattern rather than a confirmed explanation from the company.
Vacation Fun Is Closing Again After a Brief Return
Vacation Fun only recently came back. The attraction reopened September 28 after being unavailable for more than a month, although its return occurred one day later than Disney’s operating calendar had previously indicated, as Inside the Magic reported following the September reopening.
Now another interruption is approaching.
The attraction’s official Walt Disney World page describes Vacation Fun as an animated Mickey and Minnie short presented inside Mickey Shorts Theater. The experience combines original animation with sequences from several Mickey Mouse shorts, and guests can enter life-size recreations of Mickey’s animated world after the film.
That makes the closure more than the loss of a theater presentation. It temporarily removes an indoor, all-ages entertainment option and its associated photo area from the Hollywood Studios lineup.
The 2025 Closure Provides an Important Clue
There is precedent for Vacation Fun disappearing as Jollywood Nights approaches.
In 2025, Mickey Shorts Theater closed beginning October 20. During that closure, the theater’s exit area became a merchandise location for Disney Jollywood Nights before Vacation Fun ultimately returned December 27, according to Inside the Magic’s coverage of the attraction’s reopening.
That history makes the October 28 closure worth watching closely. If Disney follows a similar operational strategy in 2026, regular Hollywood Studios visitors could be without Vacation Fun through a substantial portion of the holiday season.
However, a 2027 reopening date has not been officially confirmed. The 2025 pattern can provide context, but it cannot establish this year’s reopening schedule.
Jollywood Nights Expands Deeper Into the Holiday Calendar
This year’s timing is particularly significant because Disney Jollywood Nights has grown.
Disney’s official event information confirms that the separately ticketed celebration will run on 15 select nights from November 7, 2026, through January 5, 2027. The five-hour event runs from 7:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., with ticket holders allowed to enter Hollywood Studios beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Disney lists tickets between $169 and $199 plus tax, depending on the date. Admission is separate from regular theme park admission.
That expanded schedule is one of the major changes to Disney Jollywood Nights for 2026, with the event increasing from 13 nights in 2025 to 15 this season and extending into January for the first time.
For guests holding only standard park admission, that distinction matters.
Regular Disney World Guests Get a Different Experience
Separately ticketed events inevitably divide the park experience between what standard admission includes and what requires another ticket. Vacation Fun adds another wrinkle.
If the attraction remains unavailable throughout much of the Jollywood Nights season, daytime visitors would lose access to an experience normally included with Hollywood Studios admission. Meanwhile, Disney’s official Jollywood Nights lineup promises limited-capacity attendance, character encounters, holiday entertainment, specialty offerings and favorite attractions with lower waits.
That does not establish that Disney closed Vacation Fun to prioritize higher-paying guests. Disney has announced no such motive. But the overlap highlights an increasingly important planning distinction: the Hollywood Studios experience can differ substantially depending on whether guests visit during regular hours or purchase admission to the after-hours event.
What Hollywood Studios Guests Should Watch Next
The next key piece of information is Vacation Fun’s reopening date.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is already moving into a busy period of operational change, with multiple updates reshaping areas across the park while holiday entertainment prepares to return. Disney officially lists Jollywood Nights through January 5, 2027, and its broader holiday calendar confirms the event as one of the resort’s separately ticketed seasonal offerings.
For now, guests planning Hollywood Studios visits after October 27 should not count on Vacation Fun being part of their day until Disney publishes a return date.
The 2025 closure suggests the theater could remain unavailable for much of the holiday period, but that remains precedent—not confirmation.
