A fire weather watch is bearing down on Central Florida, and Walt Disney World Resort guests need to know what’s coming before they arrive.
A Warning Worth Taking Seriously

The National Weather Service Melbourne has placed both Orange and Osceola counties under a fire weather watch, set to take effect May 7 at 12:00 p.m. and running through roughly 8:00 p.m. that evening. The watch covers the entire Walt Disney World Resort, including Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Disney Springs.
Winds out of the southwest are expected to sustain around 15 mph with frequent gusts hitting 25 mph, while relative humidity drops to somewhere between 25% and 35% — notably drier than what Central Florida typically sees this time of year. That pairing of low moisture and strong winds is precisely the kind of setup that allows fires to ignite quickly and spread faster.

One area resident, @KittyWiddy, posted a mobile alert about the conditions on X (formerly known as Twitter):
Imagine wanting to place AI data centers all over Florida. Every year we have drought conditions that lead to fire weather conditions. Just got this warning today.

Record Heat on the Horizon

The fire risk isn’t the only concern this week. Temperatures across the region are expected to surge into the 90s by Thursday, putting Central Florida within striking distance of an all-time high for that date. For Walt Disney World Resort guests spending long hours outdoors under the Florida sun, that level of heat carries a real risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke — particularly for young children and guests who aren’t staying properly hydrated. Light clothing is a must, and water should be a constant companion throughout the day.
There is some good news: a modest cool-down is expected to arrive by Friday and carry through the weekend.
Official Guidance for the Affected Area

The National Weather Service is asking residents and visitors across Orange, Osceola, Lake, Volusia, and Brevard counties to steer clear of any open flames for the duration of the watch. That means no outdoor burning, no campfires, no outdoor grills, and no open flames of any kind. Vehicles should stay off dry grass, and cigarettes need to be extinguished and disposed of in fireproof containers.
What Might Change at Disney World

Walt Disney World Resort theme parks and Disney Springs are not expected to alter their operating schedules due to the fire weather watch. However, guests at The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and other Disney Resort hotels should be prepared for possible changes to outdoor programming. Signature experiences like bonfires and s’more-making could be temporarily paused or modified during the watch. The Front Desk at any Disney Resort hotel can answer questions about what’s available during a guest’s stay.
