Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion Reopens After Brief Closure
There are some rides at Magic Kingdom that people plan their entire day around, and Haunted Mansion is absolutely one of them. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, it’s hard to walk past that eerie estate in Liberty Square without wanting to step inside. So when it suddenly went dark for an entire weekend, it didn’t take long for guests to start asking questions.

The closure came with very little warning. Guests visiting on May 2 and May 3 found the attraction listed as “temporarily closed” in the My Disney Experience app, with no reopening time and no real explanation. Cast Members nearby didn’t have much information either, which only added to the uncertainty. For a ride that rarely shuts down for extended periods, it was definitely noticeable.
What made the situation even more surprising is how quickly things turned around.
By the morning of May 4, Haunted Mansion was back open and welcoming guests again. Early wait times were incredibly low—around 13 minutes shortly after park opening—which is about as close to a walk-on as you’ll get for a ride of this popularity. That kind of return isn’t unusual after a short closure, but it still feels like a rare opportunity for guests who happen to be in the park at the right time.
Of course, it likely won’t stay that way for long. Haunted Mansion has a built-in fanbase, and word spreads quickly once it’s back up and running. Within a day or two, wait times usually climb back to their normal range.

One thing that adds a little more context to all of this is the fact that Haunted Mansion has been in the middle of exterior refurbishment for months. Work has been ongoing since February 2026, with visible updates happening around the outside of the attraction. Despite that, the ride itself had stayed open the entire time—until this brief closure.
That raises the possibility that the shutdown was tied to ongoing maintenance or an issue that needed immediate attention. Disney hasn’t confirmed anything specific, which is pretty typical for short-term closures like this. Still, the quick reopening suggests whatever the issue was, it didn’t take long to resolve.
For guests planning a trip soon, this is actually a positive development. The attraction is fully operational again, and in the short term, you might even catch it with lower-than-usual wait times. Early mornings and late evenings are always your best bet, especially as crowds start to build back up.

At the end of the day, this is a reminder of how quickly things can change at Walt Disney World. Even the most reliable attractions can go down without warning—but they can also come back just as fast. And when it comes to Haunted Mansion, it doesn’t take long before the ghosts are ready to welcome guests home again.
