As the calendar year rolls on, fans of Van Dyke look forward to annual events, including Vandy Camp, a summer program that the actor and his wife, Arlene Silver, have organized for years. The event, which is filled with dancing, crafts, performances, and much more, has become an annual tradition that brings together fans and families alike.

However, this year’s event took an unexpected turn when Van Dyke, known for his boundless enthusiasm, had to unexpectedly drop out due to health concerns.

The news came from a source close to the actor: his wife, Arlene Silver. On stage at the Vandy Camp event, Silver informed the crowd of the sudden change in plans, explaining that her husband could not attend due to an illness.

Per a report from PEOPLE:

During a speech, as she identified herself as “not the Van Dyke you’re expecting,” Silver, 53, told those in attendance, “I have to inform you that Dick is not up to coming to celebrate with us today. I’m sorry.”

“When you’re 99 and a half years old, you have good days and bad days … and unfortunately, today is not a good day for him, and he’s sick that he can’t be here,” she continued.

Still, Silver explained that she was “pretty confident” Van Dyke would be at the next Vandy Camp event “in person.”

Though Dick Van Dyke could not appear in person, he made sure to make a brief appearance via livestream, bringing joy to those in attendance. It was a moment that provided a bit of solace to the fans who had gathered to see the legendary performer.

For Dick Van Dyke, this isn’t the first time his age has slowed him down in recent years, but it’s clear that his spirit remains as strong as ever. Fans will recall that, despite his age, Van Dyke has continued to impress with his energy and commitment to staying active.

He’s even shared videos of himself dancing and playing the ukulele, proving that, in his heart, he’s as youthful as ever.
