On November 5, millions of Americans cast their votes in the Presidential election, which saw an intense race between former President Donald Trump and current Vice President Kamala Harris.

In the weeks leading up to the election, a number of celebrities publicly backed both candidates. Trump received support from figures such as Billy Ray Cyrus, Elon Musk, and Zachary Levi, best known for his role in Tangled (2010).

On the other hand, Vice President Harris was endorsed by a wide range of prominent celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Jeff Bridges, Robert Downey Jr., Paul Rudd, and Mark Ruffalo.

One notable supporter of Vice President Harris was Dick Van Dyke, star of Mary Poppins (1964). The day before the election, Van Dyke posted a video on Instagram where he read a speech he had first delivered in 1964 at a rally with Martin Luther King, Jr. In his message, he emphasized that America was not defined by hate and needed to unite against those who spread it.

In the speech, Van Dyke highlighted that “Hatred is not the norm. Prejudice is not the norm.” He urged his audience to strive for a future marked by warmth and friendship. By tagging Kamala Harris and her campaign in his post, Van Dyke made his political stance unmistakable and encouraged Americans to prioritize unity as they prepared to cast their votes.

Despite Hollywood’s fervent support for Kamala Harris, Donald Trump scored a remarkable comeback in the 2024 election. His victory over Harris was heralded as one of the greatest political comebacks in history, as he became the first president in over 130 years to win a non-consecutive second term.

Following the announcement of Donald Trump’s shocking resurgence as president after the election results were confirmed, Van Dyke expressed profound disappointment.

When approached by The Daily Mail, he quipped about the possibility of experiencing another four years under Trump, stating, “Fortunately, I won’t be around to experience the four years.” This statement etched a clear sentiment of his dissatisfaction, while also incorporating a hint of dark humor regarding his own longevity.

Despite voicing his discontent with the election outcome, Van Dyke retained a glimmer of hope for America’s future. When asked if he believed there was a bright future ahead, he responded cautiously, “I hope so.”

  1. I guess he’s another celebrity who doesn’t want to see America prosper, WW 3 avoided and Americans put first in their own country.
