ABC Anchor Fired For Illicit Affair Says She Doesn’t Miss Her Job
In December 2022, as many families were making final preparations for the upcoming holidays, ABC anchors Amy Robach and TJ Holmes were being put on indefinite leave. The two GMA3: What You Need to Know co-anchors were dealing with the fallout of their illicit affair that had recently become public. They were suspended from their anchoring duties as ABC investigated the matter.

Just one month after being suspended, Holmes and Robach were fired from their jobs. Despite their troubles, the couple remained together and got divorced from their respective spouses. They remained quiet for months, then, in September 2023, both Holmes and Robach shared identical Instagram posts, saying that they were preparing to run the New York City Marathon.

On November 1, 2023, the couple announced their new podcast — Amy and TJ. The former news anchors promised to “serve the tea”, now that they were free to talk about what happened when their affair became public. They said that multiple networks knew about their relationship, but ABC was forced to act when a tabloid made the relationship public.
It’s been almost one year since Amy Robach and TJ Holmes were fired from their hosting jobs. But it does not seem like they hold many regrets.
In a recent episode of their podcast, Robach said that she never wants to “go back to the grind.”
“I learned that I never want to go back to the grind of morning television. And I learned that I don’t miss the job, I miss the people.”
She also said that living her life “authentically” has had other positive impacts. She said she no longer needs to find coping methods so she could get a good night’s sleep.
“I would have white noise blaring — I couldn’t sleep unless it was on — and I had to play Candy Crush for like 10 minutes before I try to go to sleep, to quiet my brain, and to just numb myself in a way.”

Robach and Holmes’ affair rocked morning television, mainly because Holmes was still married to Marilee Fieberg and Robach was married to Andrew Shue. Popular Good Morning America hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopolous were reportedly disgusted by the two, thought they were tarnishing the network, and demanded they be fired.
The GMA3 anchors have said that they were fired for love, but are still happy about the decision. Robach has called her relationship with Holmes, “the most beautiful,” relationship she has been in.
However, the two do admit that they did not handle things well when it came to their marriages. Holmes admitted that both his wife and Robach’s husband found out about the affair when it began making headlines. But, both Holmes and Robach continue to say that they were separated from their spouses when their relationship began.
