Last week, instead of reporting on the headlines, ABC’s popular show GMA3 found itself a part of the headlines. The trouble started when co-anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes were photographed holding hands and spending an intimate weekend together. Both are married to other people, but after the photos came out, they said that they were separated from their respective partners before the two began their romantic relationship. Less than one week after the story broke, ABC News president, Kim Goodwin, announced that both Holmes and Robach had been placed on administrative leave, pending an internal investigation.
During an editor’s call, Goodwin said that she did not believe that the romance had violated company policy, but was doing what she thought was best.
“I want to say that while the relationship is not a violation of company policy, I really have taken the last few days to think about and work through what I think is best for the ABC News organization. These decisions are not easy, they are not knee-jerk, but they are necessary for the brand and for our priority which, you guys know, are all of us — the people here at ABC.”
Just a day after learning that Holmes and Robach had been placed on administrative leave, we are learning that Robach could return to the anchor chair as early as next week. Holmes, however, will remain suspended, as new allegations against him have come to light. According to reports, it is possible that Holmes may not return at all.
Amy is accused of carrying on an affair, behind her husband’s back. Amy’s reps deny any wrongdoing, however and suggest that she was “separated” from her husband when she began dating TJ Holmes – her co-anchor.
Amy’s reps further allege that her relationship with TJ was not “inappropriate”, as they held similar positions within the company.
TJ’s situation is much murkier. While TJ claims that he was “separated” from his wife, when he began the relationship – his wife’s friends call CAP on his story. One of his wife’s friends recently told the NY Post that the TJ and Marilee were together, when he began his relationship with Amy.
And there’s more. TJ is also accused of carrying on a second affair, with a person subordinate to him – a married female producer named Natasha Singh – who is married to movie producer Garrett Braren, 43, whose credits include Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
While both Holmes and Robach commented on their romantic relationship when the alleged affair was first revealed, they have not responded since their suspensions. ABC news anchors Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos have been filling in for Robach and Holmes since they were placed on leave.
