‘Wednesday’ Producers Confirm Vision as Netflix Reportedly Explores 7-Season Future

Netflix has only officially secured the immediate future of Wednesday, but the people behind the hit series apparently have their sights set much further down the road. Season 3 is already moving forward, and executive producers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough reportedly aren’t looking at it as Wednesday Addams’ final trip through Nevermore Academy.

Instead, the producers have discussed a path that could potentially carry the series through seven seasons.

That doesn’t mean Netflix has handed Wednesday a massive seven-season commitment. Far from it. But if the producers eventually get their way, Wednesday’s school years could provide enough mysteries to keep the series alive for a long time.

Netflix Has Already Locked In Wednesday’s Next Chapter

Before fans start thinking about Season 7, there’s a much more immediate adventure on the way.

Netflix renewed Wednesday for Season 3 in July 2025, before Season 2 debuted. Production then started near Dublin in February 2026, with Ortega returning as Wednesday alongside familiar faces from the Addams family.

Several newcomers will shake things up this time.

Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer have joined the Season 3 cast. Eva Green will also appear as Ophelia, Morticia Addams’ long-lost sister.

Millar and Gough have teased additional students and teachers arriving at Nevermore, while more Addams family secrets will come into play. Netflix has also shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse suggesting that Wednesday could travel to Paris.

Season 3 already sounds busy. Yet the producers apparently have no intention of wrapping everything up there.

Seven Seasons Could Be the Bigger Goal

Millar and Gough reportedly want to follow Wednesday throughout her years at Nevermore.

The producers reportedly “hope to keep Wednesday enrolled through the character’s Nevermore tenure, which lasts seven years (or seasons).”

For now, that’s an ambition rather than a Netflix commitment. The streamer has formally renewed Wednesday only through Season 3. Seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7 haven’t been officially ordered.

Reaching that seventh season could also require some behind-the-scenes adjustments.

Season 1 arrived in 2022, while viewers waited until 2025 for Season 2. Continuing with gaps that large could become increasingly difficult if Wednesday remains a student. Ortega and her younger co-stars will continue aging even if their characters don’t move forward as quickly.

Faster production could solve part of that issue. Bigger jumps in the show’s timeline could provide another solution.

Those jumps might eventually become part of the story itself.

Wednesday Doesn’t Have to Stay at Nevermore Forever

Even seven seasons at Nevermore wouldn’t necessarily have to mark the end of Wednesday’s story.

Graduation could become a major event, perhaps with one final mystery closing out her time at the academy. From there, the writers would have several directions to choose from.

College could put Wednesday into another strange environment filled with unfamiliar faces and new mysteries. Her talent for investigating could also lead her toward a future as a private investigator.

That direction would allow the series to grow alongside its lead character rather than keeping Wednesday frozen in her teenage years.

Her personal life could evolve, too. Future stories could explore shifting friendships, her relationship with the Addams family, and even romance as Wednesday and those around her get older.

And there may eventually be room for some of those characters to leave Wednesday’s series altogether.

Another Addams Family Series Is Already Being Discussed

The creative team has considered expanding the franchise with a spinoff, although nothing has officially moved forward.

“It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at,” Gough said.

That leaves a surprisingly large pool of possibilities. Another member of the Addams family could take center stage, or Netflix could follow somebody connected to Nevermore. A supporting character could also potentially carry a separate story.

“There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”

For now, there’s no confirmed lead character or premise. The discussions do, however, show that Wednesday’s world has room to expand beyond one series.

Wednesday’s Future Could Stretch Well Beyond Season 3

Season 3 remains the only guaranteed next step.

Production is currently underway, with the season expected sometime in 2027. Netflix hasn’t announced an official premiere date, making a late 2027 arrival an expectation rather than a confirmed release window.

The same uncertainty applies to the seven-season idea.

Netflix hasn’t committed to keeping Wednesday around that long. Still, Millar and Gough clearly see possibilities beyond the upcoming season.

If Wednesday eventually completes her Nevermore years, graduation doesn’t have to close the book. College, investigative work, relationships, and the larger Addams family could give the character plenty of mysteries to solve long after she leaves the academy behind.
