We Virtually Cooked with Disney’s Chef Kevin! Exclusive “In the Kitchen” Virtual Event
What a perfect way to spend the lunch hour! Disney invited us to join them for an exclusive #DisneyMagicMoments “In the Kitchen” Virtual Event today (Aug. 28). We did our best to cook along! Disney’s Chef Kevin Downing was live streaming how to make two popular EPCOT dishes. We also got a sneak peek at some of the incoming EPCOT merchandise.
First things first, goodness knows I am not very handy in the kitchen. By that I mean, I’m really, really bad at cooking! My husband jokingly asked what time I would be burning the food for the virtual event today… so yeah, that bad. But, thankfully, Chef Kevin was super clear, laid back, and made the cooking experience fun. Plus, beer and wine were ingredients – so a sip here and there while cooking always help!
The first dish is a Disney foodie favorite – the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup from Le Cellier Steakhouse at EPCOT. Oh. My. Goodness. If you’ve never tried this soup, it’s like heaven in a bowl. During the event it was noted that the soup has been on the menu since the day Le Cellier opened. That speaks volumes.
I grocery shopped. I read and re-read the instructions. And I prepped what could be prepped in advance. I was ready to go! Chef Kevin made it look easy, but honestly since all the prep work was done in advance, it really wasn’t all too bad. I hung in there and cooked along the best I could. The result…

Ta-da!! Disney friends, I made Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup from Le Cellier (well, kind of)! If you see the Disney photo of the soup, then my version of the soup, you can tell it’s not perfect. My soup was a little heartier than the version you get in the restaurant… but honestly, the taste wasn’t bad! It was still delicious which is surprising because it came out of my kitchen, so it’s a win for me! Here’s the recipe so you can make this excellent dish in your kitchen.
While Chef Kevin prepared the kitchen for the next dish, we were shown a sneak peek of Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival Merchandise coming in September. Another one of our team members was at a Media Event earlier this week to check it out as well! Here are all the merchandise photos so you’ll know what to be on the lookout for.
Next up, we were ready for Chef Kevin once again. This time Chef was showing us how to make Filet of Beef with Roasted Mushrooms and Beurre Blanc… another AMAZING dish found at EPCOT’s Le Cellier Restaurant. I decided to tackle only one dish for the lunch hour which was the soup. I plan to tackle the Filet however in the near future. I will say, I was thankful Chef Kevin said that while these recipes are how they work them in the restaurant and for the festival, we can make them our own at home. For example, if you don’t have the certain cut of meat that is called for on the recipe, that is fine! Make the dish yours. Ready to make your filet at home? Check out the recipe here!
Today’s virtual event was a super fun way to spend the lunch hour in the kitchen, bringing a little Disney home. And yes – I worn my Mickey ears, listened to Disney music, and even whistled while I worked. Thanks for the opportunity Disney! #DisneyMagicMoments
