Several differences could affect how guests approach their vacation, and some could easily catch visitors off guard if they’re relying on plans made weeks or months ago.
Not every change will affect every family. However, knowing what to expect before reaching the parks could save time and prevent disappointment.
Here are seven operational updates October Disney World guests should have on their radar.
1. The Walt Disney World Railroad Is Taking October Off
One familiar Magic Kingdom attraction won’t be available to October visitors.
The Walt Disney World Railroad temporarily stopped operating on September 28 and is currently expected to reopen sometime in November 2026.
That removes both an attraction and a useful transportation option. Guests often use the railroad to travel between different areas of Magic Kingdom without walking the entire distance.
Visitors arriving late in October should continue watching Disney’s operating calendar in case the reopening timeline changes.
2. Lilypad Brings Something New to Toy Story Land
October also brings a relatively new addition to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Lilypad, the frog-shaped smart tablet from Toy Story 5 (2026), officially joined Alien Swirling Saucers on September 25 as part of Lilypad’s Jams.
Lilypad serves as the attraction’s DJ, introducing a soundtrack featuring remixed Toy Story favorites alongside original songs.
The entertainment extends beyond the ride itself. Guests can try a doodle-guessing game, tackle word puzzles, and watch “home videos” featuring familiar Toy Story characters.
For returning families, the addition provides something different to experience in a familiar part of Toy Story Land.
3. Don’t Assume Magic of Disney Animation Hours
Another Disney’s Hollywood Studios experience requires some flexibility.
The Magic of Disney Animation features several experiences for guests to explore, but visitors shouldn’t assume every part of the area will follow the same schedule each day.
Hours and daily operations can vary.
Because of that, guests should check My Disney Experience and speak with Cast Members about what’s available during their visit.
Families particularly interested in the area may want to check earlier in the day rather than waiting until the end of their Hollywood Studios visit.
4. Carousel of Progress Won’t Be Available
Over at Magic Kingdom, Tomorrowland remains without one of its longtime attractions.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress closed in July 2026 for a lengthy update and remains unavailable throughout October. Disney doesn’t expect the attraction to reopen until 2027.
Guests who normally use Carousel of Progress for a slower indoor break will need to find another option.
The closure becomes more noticeable when combined with the Walt Disney World Railroad refurbishment, leaving two longtime Magic Kingdom experiences unavailable during October.
5. Two EPCOT Days Start Later

EPCOT is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. on October 23 and October 25 rather than 9 a.m.

6. Blizzard Beach Is Still Missing Slush Gusher

7. Halloween Parties Mean Shorter Magic Kingdom Days
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will have a major impact on Magic Kingdom operations throughout October.
Parties are scheduled for October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31.
Regular daytime guests without party tickets must leave Magic Kingdom by 6 p.m. on those nights.
That makes choosing the right Magic Kingdom date particularly important. Families hoping to stay into the evening may prefer a non-party day, while those visiting on party dates should prepare for the earlier cutoff.
