Disney World Confirms Permanent Update To Several Hollywood Studios Park Areas
Multiple sections of Disney’s Hollywood Studios are getting new trash receptacles as part of Walt Disney World Resort’s ongoing rollout of updated waste bins, though these particular installations have arrived looking noticeably plainer than similar additions elsewhere in the park.
A Resort-Wide Rollout Reaches Hollywood Studios
Walt Disney World Resort has spent recent months gradually swapping out its older flat-top trash cans across the theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs in favor of a newer, more modern design. The updated bins use a foot pedal rather than a push-open lid and include internal compactors, reducing how often custodial cast members need to change out bags.
The transition hasn’t been without complications. Outdoor versions of the new bins feature solar panels tucked beneath a rounded cover, removing the flat surface guests once used to set down food and drinks. That change sparked frustration at EPCOT in particular, where the old flat-top design had become a popular makeshift dining surface during crowded festival seasons.
The bins also proved trickier to use than Disney anticipated, prompting the company to release an instructional video that walks guests and cast members through proper trash and recycling disposal.
Even with these growing pains, Walt Disney World Resort has continued expanding the trash can rollout, with the newest wave of installations now reaching Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Generic Bins Arrive Without Themed Touches
According to a WDWNT report from September 22, plain silver versions of the updated trash cans have now appeared throughout several areas of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Unlike many other recent installations across the resort, these particular bins lack any location-specific theming. Disney could still choose to add decorative elements or replace them with themed versions later on, but for the time being, guests will encounter simple silver-and-black receptacles throughout the park.
These untethered bins have been spotted outside the Mickey Shorts Theater along Echo Lake, near BaseLine Tap House on Grand Avenue, outside Oasis Canteen (also along Echo Lake), at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular attraction, along the walkway connecting Pixar Plaza to Toy Story Land, and outside The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure in the newly reimagined Animation Courtyard.
Disney has already installed themed versions of these updated bins in other parts of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including near the Chinese Theatre and the Magic of Disney Animation attraction. Why this latest batch skipped that theming altogether remains unclear.
