Walt Disney World Epic Ice Cream Crawl Part One
Downtown Disney and Water Parks:
Downtown Disney:
Cooke’s of Dublin, some dining plans accepted, no discounts, this quick service location serves Edy’s ice cream $4.50; Baked Meringue shell with Strawberries and Ice Cream $5.00. I LOVE the Strawberries, Meringue and Ice Cream dessert here! This is one of my favorite desserts ever since trying it at the King’s Arms Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg as a kid. This is just as good as the memory of my first one in Williamsburg.
Dine-in Theater at AMC, DD West Side-Waffle Sundae: Belgium Maple waffle, Vanilla Ice Cream, Caramel sauce, topped with Candied Bacon, $7.99; Warm Brownie Sundae-chocolate fudge brownie, ice cream $7.99; Cinnamon Apple Crumble-fried tortilla bowl with warm Apple Cinnamon Crumble and Vanilla Ice Cream $7.99. Milkshakes-chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mango or peach $6.25.
Top Choice in Downtown Disney: Ghirardelli Ice Cream-Downtown Disney Marketplace- Dining plans not accepted, some discounts available. This very busy ice cream shop was one I only enjoyed smelling the aroma of chocolate from the outside as I passed by. With four kids, it was a place I only dreamed about eating in for so many years. Those large glass goblets are no longer used for sundaes here. Everything is served in plastic go cups and they aren’t nearly as large as they used to be. This shop makes its own chocolate toppings and you can order them in a range of dark chocolate, milk chocolate to spicy hot fudge. I enjoyed the Sea Salt Caramel Sundae $9.45, vanilla ice cream with creamy caramel and hot fudge, sea salt, topped with whipped cream, creamy caramel, sea salt and a Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate Square. It was outstanding. The flavors were full, intense, well balanced and fresh. My cohorts ordered Nob Hill Chill $7.95, a milkshake made with two scoops of vanilla ice cream bended with hot fudge and topped with semi-sweet chocolate chips. She drank only about ½ of shake before saying it was just too much chocolate for her. There was no vanilla ice cream flavor to give you a break from the intense chocolate because it had all been blended completely with the chocolate. The other chose a small Sea Salt Caramel Banana Quake Shake $6.95 (also comes in medium and large), a chocolate bar-infused milk shake with fresh banana topped with whipped cream, sea salt and creamy Ghirardelli caramel. It was shared with her boyfriend and both enjoyed the flavor and could definitely taste the banana. They said the banana helped balance the imposing chocolate and they both were satisfied with just ½ of a small. I was disappointed that these were no longer served in glass containers and we waited quite awhile, about 23 minutes for our order to be filled. There was a split view of the ice cream sampled here but the majority said there was too much chocolate to enjoy very often and the value was not the best based on the size to cost ratio. My sundae was $9.45 for the same size glass as the small Sea Salt Caramel Banana Quake Shake which had the same ingredients plus fresh banana for only $6.95. Look over the extensive menu carefully and you may find some things are more affordable in a different form. This is Ghirardelli, so expect intense chocolate, freshly made toppings and waffle cones on the premises. You can get a single scoop in a plain sugar cone or cup for $4.25 and go all the way up to an Earthquake Sundae $34.95 that is eight scoops of ice cream, 8 toppings, fresh bananas, whipped cream, chopped almonds, semi-sweet chocolate chips and a cherry for a family to enjoy. There are 15 sundaes, 13 ice cream flavors, 14 toppings, 4 milk shakes, and ice cream floats at this always busy ice cream shop. There are tables inside and outside to enjoy your ice cream at.

Top Choice for the Water Parks: Happy Landings Ice Cream, Typhoon Lagoon-no dining plans available and no discounts either; it is the end of January and a very cold winter most places this year, some days cold enough to close the water parks here, so I waited for a warmer day to get into Typhoon Lagoon. There are brave people here enjoying the water park and some opting to eat a large ice cream sundae delivered in a sand bucket complete with shovel to eat it with. The Sand Pail $9.99, consists of chocolate and vanilla soft-serve ice cream, waffle cone pieces, cookie pieces, sprinkles, hot fudge, caramel sauce, whipped cream and a cherry. There is also a Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae $5.59, vanilla ice cream with hot fudge, chocolate sprinkles, whipped cream and a cherry over a brownie. Sundae creations of your own $4.59, waffle cones $3.99, but this is the one that sets it apart: Hot Fudge Bacon Brownie Sundae $6.59, vanilla ice cream with hot fudge, Applewood Bacon pieces, whipped cream and a cherry over a brownie. There is just something delicious about creamy ice cream, crunchy and salty pieces of bacon and chocolate that compliments the flavors of each other to create a different ice cream experience. But hey, on a hot summer day in Florida who doesn’t want to sit down with family and dig into a sand pail full of ice cream? They also sell the classic Nestle® Mickey’s Ice cream Bar, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Edy’s® Strawberry Fruit Bars.
