I don’t know about you, but 80-year-old Harrison Ford is kind of hard to keep up with. This man is literally about to premiere the FIFTH installment of the Indiana Jones saga – an action-adventure series he has led for almost 45 years. He recently wrapped up his other iconic role as Han Solo in one of the most massive movie franchises of all time – Star Wars. And now he’s making the leap to arguably the most profitable Cinematic Universe of our time?

Get this man a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Oh wait, he already has that too…! Truth be told, I somehow missed the news that Ford would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it hit the ether last year. But color me impressed. Harrison Ford truly can do it all and still makes grumpy look good.

Now, color me surprised that he finds his work on his Marvel projects to be “tough.” Here’s the run down.

Harrison Ford Joins MCU in Place of Deceased Actor

Harrison Ford will make his Marvel Cinematic debut in the next Captain America movie. Formerly known as Falcon, Anthony Mackey stars in the titular role of Captain American: New World Order. Harrison Ford plays a character named Thaddeus Ross. Ross is a persistent antagonist of Bruce Banner/Hulk, obsessed with capturing or killing the Hulk to use his abilities for military purposes.

He later reappears in several other MCU movies, including Captain America: Civil War (2016), where he is the United States Secretary of State, and Avengers: Infinity War (2018), where he requests the Avengers’ help in stopping Thanos. Actor William Hurt originated the role, but unfortunately passed away in 2022 from natural causes at the age of 71.

Harrison Ford and His Relationship to the MCU

Ford shared that working on a Marvel film can be pretty rough. He told Esquire over the phone while on location in Atlanta, GA, for filming,

There are tough days and easy days and fun days and all kinds of days. It’s a tough schedule and, yeah, it’s fun. But it’s not a walk in the park. It’s not fun fun. It’s work.

In the military, Ford’s Ross was known as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Fans are speculating that the character will not only appear in the fourth Captain America, but also in the Thunderbolts movie set to release directly after. The Thunderbolts are an anti-hero team set to lead Marvel’s closing film of Phase 5.

Keep your eye out for anyone Indy or Han references in Ford’s upcoming Marvel films because I, for one, would love that.

About Lana Porter

Lana has never lost a Disney Trivia night. Maybe it’s the hundreds of times she’s been to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, her love for Disney’s ’90’s era hand-animated musicals, or the fact that she’s often likened to cartoon characters, but Disney and its magic have a special place in her heart. Her favorite Disney experiences include the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, eating Mickey Bars on the PeopleMover, and crying during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. One day she hopes to be chosen as the rebel spy on Star Tours. When Lana isn’t Park Hopping, she’s at home reading books of all topics, watching her favs on Disney+, or snuggling her two cats, which she swears are not named after Disney characters. She loves surprising people with her knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but admits she is still catching up with Star Wars. She is happy to combine her excitement for writing with her love for Disney-style storytelling and share what she can with the world!
