Tina Turner is truly an icon and a legend to the music industry as well as the world. Earlier today, May 24th 2023, Rolling Stone reported that Tina passed away at the age of 83 due to a long, unspecified illness.
Her family and spokesperson provided these statements today: “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”
Tina Turner’s Inspiring Career
The legendary soul singer was born in 1939 in Tennessee and overcame many trials and tribulations to have the world-shattering career that she did. Some of her most popular anthems include ‘Proud Mary’ (1970), ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ (1984), and ‘The Best’ (1989). She originally rose to fame with her husband Ike Turner in the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, until she was able to leave the unhealthy marriage and break out on her own. Ike was physically and emotionally abusive to Tina.
Tina Turner sold hundreds of millions of albums and won 12 Grammy Awards. She sold out global tours and even has a Broadway musical dedicated to her work called Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, which debuted in New York in 2018.
Tina Turner and Disney
Tina Turner was very involved with Disney. She performed at the Disneyland Paris opening in 1992. Disney’s Touchstone made What’s Love Got to Do With It (1993) about Tina’s life and journey. She recorded the song ‘He Lives in You’ for the sequel soundtrack to The Lion King (1994).
Tina Turner also worked with Elton John on a soundtrack for a Dinsey Musical, later to become Aida. She also worked on the Brother Bear (2003) Soundtrack and performed at the premiere. Disney’s 2021 Cruella even featured some of her earlier songs.
