Universal Orlando Resort, Disney’s biggest competitor, has confirmed it’s in the process of developing another major ride.

If you’ve visited Universal Orlando Resort in the last couple of years, you’ve likely noticed that the crowds are larger and the theme parks and area have been expanded.

Universal’s Islands of Adventure has added two new major rides in the last four years in Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and the Jurassic World VelociCoaster. Poseidon’s Fury will also close down permanently in May to make way for another new attraction.

Next door at Universal Studios Florida, The Bourne Stuntacular opened in 2020, and Universal Orlando is in the midst of developing two new attractions for the theme park, as well. First, Villain-Con Minion Blast will open at Universal Studios Florida this summer and Universal is also in the early stages of replacing the Woody Woodpecker KidZone, which is rumored to be themed to DreamWorks.

What if we told you that Universal Orlando wasn’t done there?

Universal is constructing Epic Universe, an all-new theme park that will house SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, as well as other rumored lands like Universal Classic Monsters, an addition to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and a How to Train Your Dragon land.

Now, we’ve gotten confirmation from reports in the Orlando Business Journal that Universal is constructing more plans for another dark ride.

Universally Addicted shared the patent on Twitter:

Orlando Business Journal Has Shared That Universal Destinations & Experiences Has Recently Filed A Patent For A New And Updated Safety Restraint System. The Patent Is For The “Support Bar Mounted System and Method of Minimum Close Indication for Ride Vehicle.”

At this time, it’s unclear if this is a ride for Epic Universe or if this is a potential replacement for Poseidon’s Fury once it closes down. There have been rumors for a while that Universal Orlando could add a dark ride to the Lost Continent if it shut down that area, and this would make sense for something if a retheme was coming.

It could also be a safety system that will be used in Epic Universe, perhaps for the dark ride that’s rumored to be located in the Ministry of Magic attraction.
