Universal Evacuates Epic Universe Area, Medical Personnel Arrive

A recent ride evacuation at Universal Orlando Resort’s highly anticipated Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry attraction has left one guest with a deeper appreciation for the cutting-edge technology behind the ride—and a newfound understanding of the complexities involved in large-scale theme park attractions.

The image captures the iconic Universal Studios globe, featuring a large, rotating Earth with "UNIVERSAL" in bold letters. Palm trees and buildings rise in the background under a clear blue sky. The globe, set amidst a misty fountain, hints at the excitement of Epic Universe to come, along with Universal Horror Unleashed, next to Disney World.

Ride Evacuation Makes for a Memorable Experience

In a detailed X post, the guest recounted their unique experience of being evacuated from the ride, which was part of Universal’s upcoming Epic Universe expansion. The guest emphasized that while being stuck in a ride vehicle for 50 minutes wasn’t exactly pleasant, it provided an in-depth look at the ride’s innovative technology and the intricate evacuation process that guests likely don’t notice when they’re riding normally.

The guest began by noting that the evacuation was “one of the most unique ride evacuation experiences” they’d ever encountered, revealing details about the ride system that many guests may not be familiar with. “This attraction requires mobile metal staircases to access ride vehicles. The ride vehicle positions, even when retracted to their lowest position, are well over 15 feet in the air,” the guest explained. To aid in the evacuation, an additional safety wall pops up from the front of the ride vehicle, designed to assist guests in safely exiting.

The guest expressed their admiration for the technology behind the ride vehicles, describing them as “pure genius. They went on to clarify that while the ride vehicles may feel somewhat similar to the technology used in Universal’s Spider-Man attraction and Disney’s Tower of Terror, they are far more advanced. “They’re way more complex,” the guest stated, emphasizing that despite similarities to other attractions, the Battle at the Ministry vehicles are a significant leap forward in design and technology.

Time is Ticking

However, the guest also acknowledged that the ride still has some kinks to work out before its grand opening. “The evacuation process clearly takes a very long time to complete and requires medical personnel at the ready,” they noted. While the experience of being evacuated was memorable, it highlighted the complexities of the ride’s system, particularly the extended time it took to clear the ride vehicles and ensure guest safety.

Despite the difficulties, the guest found value in the evacuation process itself, which allowed them to walk through the ride and experience the scale of the attraction in a way few others will. “Walking through one of the greatest attractions on the planet? Worth every moment,” they shared. They were particularly impressed by the gargantuan scale of the ride, and from their perspective, it was clear that Universal had invested heavily in this attraction. “It’s very obvious to me that it’s very likely that more than a billion dollars was spent on this singular attraction alone,” they said.

The guest did not sugarcoat their discomfort during the 30 to 45 minutes spent stuck in the ride vehicle, but they admitted that it could have been worse. “Being in a rather comfortable seat with only a seatbelt made it passable,” they stated. While the situation wasn’t ideal, the guest expressed that the experience was still educational and eye-opening in terms of understanding the intricacies of theme park technology and the challenges that come with opening such a groundbreaking attraction.

As Universal Orlando Resort continues to fine-tune Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, the guests’ report serves as a testament to the level of innovation the park is bringing to its new attractions. While the evacuation process may need further refinement, the scale and ambition of the ride are clear. With Epic Universe on track to open in the near future, it’s evident that Universal is pushing the boundaries of theme park entertainment.

For now, the guest’s experience offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the process of bringing a monumental ride to life, and it’s likely that Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry will be one of the most talked-about attractions in the theme park industry once it opens to the public.
