Universal Orlando Changes Iconic Attraction, Overnight Cuts
Universal Orlando Resort offers many attractions designed to thrill and entertain guests worldwide. However, like any theme park, attractions are subject to occasional breakdowns and technical difficulties.
When Universal Orlando first introduced the King Kong attraction, it was hailed as a groundbreaking achievement in theme park entertainment. Combining state-of-the-art 3D technology with intricate set designs and stunning special effects, the attraction transported guests to the mysterious and treacherous world of Skull Island.
As guests board their expedition vehicles, they embark on a thrilling journey through dense jungles, dark caves, and perilous encounters with prehistoric creatures. The highlight of the experience was a breathtaking encounter with the colossal King Kong himself, rendered in stunning 3D animation.
In recent years, the attraction has faced numerous technical issues and breakdowns, resulting in prolonged closures and frustrated guests. Despite efforts to repair and maintain the ride, the underlying technology allegedly proved to be increasingly unreliable, leading to a decline in its popularity and appeal.
This attraction has had technical issues for some time, and guests have not been through the jungles before heading into the caves. In recent news, Skull Island: Reign of Kong has now been dealing with bigger issues.
In a Reddit Thread, Universal Orlando guests talk about how Skull Island: Reign of Kong is now a 2-D instead of a 3-D attraction. Comments talk about how this attraction doesn’t do much for them anymore or how the attraction has gone downhill from no longer being 3D and not going outside anymore.
“For me it’s more about the principal. Another 3d ride gone and the trucks don’t go outside anymore. The ride is supposed to be immersive, not just another high capacity ride that’s mid,” one guest said.
“The other part is that the prices of tickets certainly aren’t going down for all these things Universal is doing to diminish the experience, like the still broken Dino’s on River adventure, or the broken effects on Velocicoaster, or the sad state of affairs that is Seuss landing. It’s just frustrating,” they said.
These comments show how many other Universal attractions are starting to go downhill. At Jurassic Park River Adventure, the dinosaurs are broken, and guests have noticed Jurassic World VelociCoaster has broken features, as well.
Do you think Universal Orlando is starting to let attraction fall through the cracks with all the new projects they are working on? Tell us about it in the comments below!
I was just there last week, it was still 3d. It was great fun
Was there in December, I did not notice any major issues. I think the Skull Island ride’s over reliance on screens make it one that I don’t need to experience twice. It’s also awkwardly shoehorned in between two more fully developed themed areas. They could have just committed to further developing Jurassic World and I think most people would be happier.
