Your favorite fairytale characters are headed to the stage again, but I can guarantee that you’ve never seen them quite like this before. Recent Broadway musicals have found success in taking a popular musical artist’s discography and turning it into a stage show.
Some examples include Jagged Little Pill featuring songs from Alanis Morissette, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, MJ the Musical based on Michael Jackson’s music, A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, and more.
Now the Princess of Pop is getting her moment on Broadway in a new musical called Once Upon a One More Time. If the title didn’t give it away, the story will be told by your favorite princesses and other fairytale characters! You will see Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, and Rapunzel will belt out some of Spears’ most recognizable hits: “Oops I Did It Again,” “Lucky,” “Circus, “Toxic,” and more!
The plot follows our classic leading ladies in a book club. One day the Fairy Godmother suggest their next reading be “The Feminine Mystique.” A feminist revolution takes place, and the princesses realize that they can get more out of life!
Audiences can expect some hip-hop dancing and reimagined characters popularized by The Walt Disney Company. Will we see any costume inspired by Britney Spears’ iconic music video wardrobe? It wouldn’t be a Britney Spears-inspired show without the “Baby One More Time” school ensemble. Red jumpsuits and sparkly body suits are a must.
It will be fun to see how this Broadway show reimagines the princesses to mix and match with the themes of Britney’s songs. Will Cinderella sing “Lucky” about life with Prince Charming? Which character fits “Oops I Did It Again?” What about “Toxic?” Britney and Grimm’s Fairytale fans will enjoy seeing the seemingly unrelated elements woven together.
