System Glitch Causes Refund Issues But One Guest Has a Solution

Disney IT has…shall we say, a bit of a bad reputation? Glitches are not uncommonGlitches are not uncommon. Most of the time, this just presents a slight annoyance, but sometimes, much bigger problems can arise.

With the recent hurricanes, Disney has experienced many cancellations. Usually, this isn’t a massive deal because Disney has one of the best cancellation policies in the business.  Guests can cancel up to 30 days in advance and still receive a full refund (including the $200 deposit). For cancellations 2-29 days in advance, Guests can receive a full refund minus their $200 deposit. Reservations only become non-refundable one day before expected arrival.

During special circumstances (like a hurricane or health crisis), Disney often relaxes this policy even further. During Hurricane Ian and for much of the COVID-19 pandemic, Guests could receive a full refund up to their day of travel. However, a recent system glitch has caused issues with some refunds.

Social media posts have been popping up saying that they’ve been waiting longer than usual for refunds. Some had given up on their refund altogether. One guest, however, has a solution. We spoke with Jennifer, who had been waiting on a refund, and finally decided to call about it. She was informed by Cast Members that “enchantments”‘ to their system caused a number of refunds not to be automatically processed as they should be. They were able to find it in the system and issue her a refund. She took to social media to let others know about the problem and share her solution.

A Cast Member we spoke with confirmed this to be a fact. The system hasn’t “lost” the refunds necessarily, but the mechanisms in place to issue them automatically have been disrupted for many. If your refund is taking longer than expected (more than 10 days), the Cast Member advised Guests to call Disney at (407) 939-4357. Usually, a phone call can fix the issue quickly.
