On the heels of the exciting announcement of Disney Adventure World is the permanent retheme of a landmark Disney Park attraction.
Closures are one of our least favorite parts of the Disney experience, and anybody from anywhere in the world can relate to that sentiment. We all know the feeling of our favorite shops, restaurants, or bars shutting their doors. And when that closure is more permanent than not, it’s certainly more heartbreaking than one might want to admit.
This feeling is particularly potent when it comes to the Disney Parks. With Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opening at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort opening later this year, former Disney attraction Splash Mountain fans will be the first to commiserate.
However, closures happen all over the world at any Disney Park, and the European counterpart to Walt Disney World and Disneyland is currently going through a massive revival.
The former Walt Disney Studios Park—now called Disney Adventure World—is undergoing a park-wide refurbishment. Fans have criticized the theme park for years for not meeting the Disney standard of quality, but it is going to receive more than a simple name change.
The Disney Park is going through a multi-year transformation to breathe new life into it.
As part of this, the landmark attraction from the former Walt Disney Studios Park, Studio 1, officially has walls up around it as the building has closed. It will remain closed for about a year as Disney works on making it the new “World Premiere.”

The walls are decorated with artist-concept renditions of what fans can expect from the park after the transformation is complete.
The full refurbishment will cost Disney €2 billion. This includes Disney’s construction of the Frozen-themed land that will grace Disneyland Paris as well: World of Frozen, something fans are quite excited for.
World of Frozen will be situated on the edge of Adventure Bay, a body of water at the park that will serve as “the center point of the new expansion for the park and will serve as the central hub to the new lands and experiences that are being planned.”
During the announcement of the upcoming changes to the park, Disney executives expressed optimism and hope for the development of the park.
“Today, we are changing the story of Walt Disney Studios Park, evolving from ‘how it’s done’ soundstages to celebratory theaters and adventures that come to life in immersive worlds. These fully realized adventure worlds will become the focus of the park’s new identity and appear as realms that guests discover as they navigate deeper within the park and are invited to participate in adventures inspired by our most beloved stories,” Tom Fitzgerald, Walt Disney Imagineering Chief Storytelling Executive and Senior Creative Executive for Disneyland Paris said.
