Dole Whip is a popular frozen treat that is now synonymous with Disney. Theme park visitors love this refreshing pineapple-flavored dessert, which can be found at several different service locations around Disney World and Disneyland.
Originally introduced at Disneyland in the 1980s, Dole Whip has gained a cult following over the years. Its creamy texture and tropical flavor make it a perfect treat to cool down on a hot day.
Simply put, It’s the perfect Disney World treat on a Florida vacation day. Some would even say that the pineapple flavor is so authentic that it feels like you’re biting into a fresh, juicy pineapple.
One of the great things about Dole Whip is that it’s dairy-free and vegan, making it a suitable option for those with dietary restrictions. Despite the Dole Whip recipe, which has seen an influx of new concoctions around Walt Disney World, the main ingredients in Dole Whip include fruit juice, sugar, and a non-dairy base.
It’s also gluten-free, making it a versatile option for many people. For many who can’t handle ice cream, Dole Whip is an escape from an unwanted break from their day at Magic Kingdom.

Dole Whip is also extremely versatile. It can be enjoyed in various forms, including as a Dole Whip float, soft serve, or even as a standalone dessert.
The classic Dole Whip is served in a cup or a cone, but if you want to elevate your experience, you can opt for a Dole Whip float, where the creamy pineapple soft serve is topped with pineapple juice for an extra burst of flavor.
Dole Whip at Walt Disney World
You’ll find Dole Whip all over the place at Walt Disney World, often accompanied by Florida’s own Disney mascot, Orange Bird. Although you can pick up the pineapple juice snack at every park, our favorite place to pick up this refreshing treat is at Sunshine Tree Terrace in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom.
Although you’ll often find long lines over at Aloha Isle, where most Magic Kingdom day guests go for their Disney Park Dole Whip, Sunshine Tree Terrace often has unique flavor combinations, including coconut, strawberry, orange, and more. Oh, and they also let you mobile order, despite having shorter lines.
Although ice cream could definitely be considered a Disney snack, especially at Walt Disney World, it’s hard to beat a Pineapple Dole Whip when discussing iconic must-haves.
The high demand for a Disney Dole Whip has led to the creation of some pretty fabulous combinations that can be enjoyed either traditionally or as a Dole Whip float. If pineapple juice is too acidic, or you aren’t a fan of the flavor, guests can try plenty of other creations, including vanilla, tropical serenade, swirls, raspberry, and even root beer.
Something else fun that Disney does a great job with is using its iconic Dole Whip recipes to pay homage to popular characters and movies.
These cute treats are often not only delicious, but they also make for a great social media post! So, although Pineapple Dole Whip is the norm at Walt Disney World, don’t be afraid to venture out of your comfort zone and try something new.
Enjoy the Snack Outside of Disney World
While Dole Whip can be enjoyed at Disney theme parks, there are also places outside of the parks where you can find it. Some specialty dessert shops and ice cream parlors offer their own versions of the delicious treat, allowing fans to indulge in this delicious treat without having to visit the parks.
If you’re a fan of Dole Whip and want to recreate the magic at home, numerous recipes are available online that provide step-by-step instructions on how to make your own Dole Whip.
With just a few ingredients and a blender or food processor, you can whip up this tropical delight in the comfort of your own kitchen.

However, it seems that sometimes trying Dole Whip outside of Disney may not be the best idea, at least according to Reddit. According to one particular user, u/TearsDon’tFall, the strawberry Dole Whip sold outside of Disney World is far from what Disney fans would expect.
PSA – Grocery store Dole Whip… stay away
byu/TearsDontFall inWaltDisneyWorld
“We bought a box of the strawberry dole whip as a treat to have at home as we love it in the park… no. Just no. Stay away. Do not ruin yourself like we did.”
It sounds like the user is referencing stand-alone Dole Whip products that can be purchased at your local grocery store. Often, as cited by some in the comments, these frozen treats lack the cool whip consistency of Dole Whip you’d find in Magic Kingdom.
As there are many more flavors available instead of just Pineapple Dole Whip, these grocery store offerings can easily catch the eye of someone hoping to relive one of their favorite Disney memories, but according to this user, they’re definitely not what you’d expect.
It’s not surprising, given the consistency of these products, that they likely don’t follow the exact Dole Whip recipe that you’d find at Disney World.
Although they certainly are made by the same company, they aren’t a Disney Dole Whip, meaning they come pre-frozen and aren’t mixed on the spot like those you’d find at Magic Kingdom.
Although any version of the snack, whether its made with vanilla ice cream or coconut milk, is best enjoyed via a soft serve texture, these grocery store versions often taste more like Italian ice. So, buyer beware!
If you’re going to try and enjoy the snack at home, we’d suggest you follow a few Disney-approved instructions. You’ll need a few things like a food processor or a blender, dairy-free ice cream, and fruit of your choice (we really like mango with lime juice)! Per the official Disney Parks Blog, this is the best way to make Dole Whip at home:
- 1/2-3/4 cup pineapple juice, divided
- 2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
- 1 cup dairy-free vanilla ice cream
- Place 1/2 cup pineapple juice, frozen pineapple, and dairy-free vanilla ice cream in blender and blend until smooth – do not over blend. If the mixture is too thick to blend, add 2 tablespoons of pineapple juice at a time.
- Scoop into bowls and serve immediately

Dole Whip, at least within the park and at Disney Springs, has become more than just a dessert – it’s a symbol of the Disney experience.
Whether visiting one of the Disney Parks or enjoying a homemade recipe, Dole Whip will surely transport you to a tropical paradise with every bite. Treat yourself to this iconic treat and savor the sweetness of Dole Whip.
The Dole Whip that is sold in the frozen food section of my local Stop & Shop is horrible. Coconut water is used in the product and the flavor of coconut is very evident to me since I don’t like coconut. I don’t mind that it’s not a soft as the Disney version, but the taste is ruined.
Luckily there is a small amusement park 30 minutes from my house that sells the real dole whip. They also sell lemon, cherry, watermelon, and mango Dole whips. The lemon/cherry twist is pretty good.. Now if they would only add the raspberry flavor!!!
