4 Year Silence Finally Broken on Disney’s Long Dormant ‘Figment’ Movie
Disney’s long-dormant Figment movie has unexpectedly resurfaced.
Figment has been one of EPCOT’s most recognizable original characters for more than four decades. The purple dragon debuted alongside Dreamfinder in the original Journey Into Imagination in March 1983, quickly developing a loyal following that has endured through multiple versions of the attraction.
Today, Figment stars in Journey Into Imagination With Figment, where he repeatedly interrupts Dr. Nigel Channing’s tour of the Imagination Institute. He has also become a major presence across EPCOT merchandise, festivals, and character experiences.
In September 2022, reports revealed that Disney was developing a feature film based on the character. Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures was attached to produce, while Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit were tapped to write the screenplay.

Seth Rogen Finally Addresses Disney’s Figment Movie
Four years after the project was first reported, Seth Rogen has now directly addressed what happened to the mysterious Figment movie.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly while promoting his new movie, Babies, at the Toronto International Film Festival, Rogen first clarified that his involvement with the Disney project was always behind the scenes.
“I wasn’t gonna star in it, we were producing it,” Rogen said.
When asked where the movie currently stands, Rogen did not offer a firm production update, but his answer suggested that the project has not necessarily been abandoned.
“Um, let me get back to you on that. Let me kick the tires on that one!” he said with a laugh.

Rogen was then pressed on whether he needed to revive work on the movie. Although he appeared to agree with the suggestion, he remained deliberately vague about what may be happening behind the scenes.
“I can’t tell you anything!” he said.
The remarks are significant largely because so little has been said about the Figment movie since it emerged in 2022. Disney has never announced a release date, cast, director, or further production details, leaving its status uncertain for years.
Rogen’s comments still stop well short of confirming that the movie has received a green light or is moving toward production. However, they are the clearest indication in years that the project has not simply disappeared without a trace.
The timing is also notable considering Disney has recently redirected its attention to Figment at EPCOT.
At D23 in August 2026, Disney announced that Figment and Dreamfinder will reunite as part of a new Journey Into Imagination experience. Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum said the company had heard how important the characters were to fans, although it has not yet revealed a debut date or the full scope of the attraction changes.
Dreamfinder originally appeared alongside Figment from 1983 until the original Journey Into Imagination closed in 1998. He was removed when the pavilion was reworked, while Figment eventually returned in the current attraction in 2002.
Figment’s has gained something of a cult following over the years. When his dedicated meet and greet opened in September 2023, guests waited as long as five hours to meet the purple dragon. A year earlier, his $25 Festival of the Arts popcorn bucket sparked even more chaos, with lines stretching beyond six hours and the souvenir quickly selling out, with resellers listing it for as much as $100.
A Figment movie would also continue Disney’s long history of adapting theme park attractions for the big screen. Previous examples include Pirates of the Caribbean, The Country Bears, Tomorrowland, and two separate Haunted Mansion films.
