If your favorite Disney princess has lips red as the rose, hair black as ebony, and skin white as snow, you’ll be pleased to know that filming for the live-action remake of Walt’s very first animated feature is set to begin in just 6 months–in March 2022.
First announced in October 2016, almost 80 years after the original animated film hit theaters, the live-action remake of Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will showcase music by Justin Paul and Benj Pasek.
Rachel Zegler (Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake of West Side Story and DC Films’ upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods) will play the role of Disney’s first princess.
This dynamic duo is responsible for a couple of songs you probably couldn’t get out of your head for a while–“City of Stars” from La La Land and “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman, as they wrote the songs for both films. They were also responsible for the music for Disney’s 2019 box office smash, Aladdin, which had a worldwide gross of more than $1.05 billion.
Erin Cressida Wilson, screenwriter for The Girl on the Train wrote the script for the upcoming film.
The most recent info we have also suggests that Marc Webb, who directed The Amazing Spider-Man will be on tap to direct the Snow White-inspired flick, which is being worked on under the title, Merry. And Mary Poppins Returns producer Marc Platt will be lending his talents to the remake as well.
Before the coronavirus pandemic exploded in early 2020, filming was set to take place in Vancouver, Canada. Now the filming has been moved to the U.K.
Zegler and the cast will begin filming next spring, and at this time, the release date for the film has not been disclosed. It is also unclear at this time whether the release will be exclusively theatrical or if it will also include a premiere release to the Disney+ streaming platform.
