Resellers Descend Upon Disney Park, Snatching the Merch and Leaving Guests Frustrated

While the big Disney celebration is happening at Walt Disney World Resort for its 50th Anniversary, there is another Disney Park that is also celebrating a big birthday. Disneyland Paris is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year and there are a lot of amazing things happening at the European Park. Gorgeous decorations are decorating all corners of the Park, Mickey and the gang are all wearing special outfits, there are themed gardens with special statues, and Disney D-Light lights up the night sky. Disney Illuminations has also found its way to the Park.

As with all Disney celebrations, Paris’ 30th brought some really great merchandise. There are special ears featuring everyone’s favorite chipmunks, Chip and Dale along with a spirit jersey. There is also an absolutely gorgeous Loungefly miniature backpack that made its debut just a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, the bags were gone almost as soon as they were put out. Guests were seen walking out with piles of shopping bags full of backpacks, showing that the US Disney Parks are not the only ones that struggle with resellers.

DLP Report shared a picture of one group of people with nearly half a dozen large shopping bags, full of the Loungeflys. Now, many Disney Parks put purchasing limits on popular merchandise, but those limits are typically per person. Meaning, if you have a larger group of people, you can get your hands on a lot. However, it can also be up to the Cast Member to enforce the limit policy, and they may find it easier to let it slide than argue with a Guest.

As expected. There’s probably 50 bags in there.

One woman asked if Disney could limit the number of 30th Loungefly purchased, and someone responded that Disney was limiting the bags to four per person. So, realistically, a family of four could snag 20 bags. The original poster shared that information with her, saying that families buying the max per person were causing the line to purchase to be approximately an hour and a half.

[Translated] It’s 5 / person, but suddenly people come in groups / with their children and redo the queue (which lasts 1h30 lol)

As with other popular merchandise found at Disney Parks (think Figment popcorn buckets), the resellers were quick to post their purchases to sites like eBay. Traditionally, Lougefly bags will sell at Disney for about $75. On eBay, the bags are going for around $200 or more.

One person said that they spoke to a Cast Member who said that they hope for a restocking of the backpacks in April. Disney gets merchandise shipments on a nearly daily basis, but it’s usually unknown what products they get. It is possible that the bags could be restocked before next month. The Disneyland Paris 30th Anniversary Celebration will get even better when Avengers Campus opens this summer.

Do you think Disney should limit all merchandise to one per Guest?
