Oh EPCOT, the theme park full of delicious food, beautiful topiaries, a brand-new roller coaster (Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind), and home to one of the most divisive attractions on Walt Disney World property. That attraction would be Journey Into Imagination With Figment. The ride takes Guests through the Imagination Institute on a tour guided by Dr. Nigel Channing — played by Eric Idle. However, the tour goes a little off-kilter when Figment, an adorable purple dragon, decides to come along.
Journey Into Imagination has undergone several changes over the years, with the current version being in place since 2002. The Imagination Pavilion ride features audio-animatronic versions of Figment, along with screen versions. It was one of the audio-animatronics that seems to recently suffered an unfortunate accident. Disney Parks Live (@disneyparksdiy) shared that they waited 20 minutes to get on the ride — which shows how crowded the Disney Park was, as the ride is typically a very short wait — only to see a Figment with an apparently broken neck.
You can watch the video of the poor Figment below.

A couple of people who saw the video commented that they had ridden the attraction and had seen the same problem with Figment. One user commented that the broken Figment was a sign to return the ride to the way it was when it first opened. Over the years, many have shared the same opinion — they would like to see Journey Into Imagination get rid of Dr. Channing and bring back The Dreamfinder, the man who originally created Figment.

While the ride may not be as popular as other attractions in EPCOT, Figment has garnered a massive following. People can’t get enough of his adorable orange wings and horns and his enduring spirit. Disney has acknowledged how much people love Figment and have made him the mascot of EPCOT. He is the face of most festivals and is on a majority of the specialty merchandise. At this year’s Festival of the Arts, Disney even released a Figment popcorn bucket, which had people lining up for five hours to get their hands on it.
Whether you love the current Journey Into Imagination or not, I think we can all deserve that Figment deserves better than a broken neck!
