Official: Disney Moves on From Captain Jack Sparrow, Confirms New Pirate Film

For years, Pirates of the Caribbean has been Disney’s crown jewel in the pirate adventure genre.

The franchise delivered unforgettable moments, from epic ship battles to the mischievous charm of Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp. However, the tides have shifted, and Disney is struggling to navigate the waters of a potential sixth installment.

Fans have been vocal about their desire to see Depp reprise his iconic role, but Disney’s strained relationship with the actor has cast a long shadow over the future of the series.

It’s not just the absence of Jack Sparrow that’s a challenge. The last film, Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), was met with mixed reviews and left many wondering if the franchise still had enough wind in its sails. Rumors of a reboot or spin-off featuring Margot Robbie didn’t spark the excitement Disney might have hoped for, and the project has seemingly stalled.

With fan demand for Depp’s return louder than ever and no clear path forward for the franchise, Disney appears to be in a state of creative limbo.

So, what’s a studio to do when one pirate ship isn’t seaworthy? Build another one, of course. Enter Treasure Island, a fresh take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel. This new adaptation, currently in early development, will be directed by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz, the indie filmmakers behind The Peanut Butter Falcon. Their vision? A 1970s Australian surfer twist on the beloved tale of treasure maps and swashbuckling betrayal.

It’s a bold departure from the traditional Treasure Island adaptations of the past. Nilson and Schwartz describe their version as brimming with themes of brotherhood and outsider energy, all wrapped in the sun-soaked aesthetic of 70s surf culture. While it’s a drastic reimagining, Disney is no stranger to pushing boundaries with this story. After all, they’ve tackled it before with the 1950 live-action film and the sci-fi-themed Treasure Planet (2002).

This new approach to Treasure Island could be Disney’s way of reigniting interest in pirate adventures while avoiding the controversies surrounding Pirates of the Caribbean. Whether fans embrace this shift or continue clamoring for Jack Sparrow’s return, Disney seems determined to keep the spirit of adventure alive.

For now, Treasure Island might be the fresh start the studio needs to reclaim its pirate legacy.

  1. OFFER him 500 million. If he refuse that go final offer 600 million and 15 cents. So he fills he got evey nickel and dime out of you all.

  2. Real fans will not see the new movie. Disney sha m e on you. You should have backed the person who made the pirates famous,. You should have taken the time to help him. Your just as bad as Heard, there was no loyalty or compassion to him. Mr Walt is rolling you guys are bad.

  3. Disney— you have disgraced yourselves in the eyes of your family oriented fan base. Your going along with the “WOKE” movement led me and my family to cancel our subscription with you. What you did to INNOCENT Johnny Depp prior was unbelievably CRUEL!!! GOOD LUCK MAKING A COME-BACK…

  4. Well pooks like I’m boycotting Disney for the ignorance and disrespect Johnny Depp’s the only way you’re going to fix it make it right or lose your friends that’s all I have to say

  5. I for one believe you made a terrible mistake. One of your best actors was dropped without knowing the truth. If you know Johnny, then you know he is not capable of domestic violence. The least you could have done was wait until all the facts were out to make a change.
The fans of Depp will never go against him and watch another movie that should have had him in it. Kiss the millions goodbye, you have done yourself in!

  6. I am telling you this is a bad move there is already a nove ment called #NoJohnnyNoPirates Disney Weill lose soooo BIG if they don’t reach out to Depp and offer him a part in the film it will be a box office night mare and will crash and burn hard

  7. I agree it will not be Pirates of the Caribbean without Johnny Depp. That is a huge mistake 😳! And it will probably sink. Badly sad to say he was the franchise!!
