Magic Kingdom Park’s ferryboat entrance is undergoing its biggest change in years, as Walt Disney World Resort works through a multi-month construction project aimed at expanding capacity for guests crossing the Seven Seas Lagoon.
Why Disney Is Building a New Ferryboat Dock at the Magic Kingdom
The project traces back to February, when Walt Disney World Resort filed a construction permit to build a new ferryboat dock outside Magic Kingdom Park. The expanded loading and unloading area is designed to accommodate more guests traveling to and from the Transportation & Ticket Center, especially with a fourth ferryboat set to join the Seven Seas Lagoon fleet: the Meg Gilbert Crofton, named for a former Walt Disney World Resort president.
Florida’s state water management district signed off on the project in March, clearing the way for construction to begin. Plywood barriers went up at the site over the summer, followed by the gradual arrival of construction equipment.
What’s New as of Late August
WDWNT shared updated photos of the construction site on August 26, showing that crews had cut and installed several wood pillars, following timber deliveries that first arrived earlier in the month. Wooden joists now connect the new pillars to an existing walkway on site.
The outlet also noted that a large barge previously seen carrying an excavator has since left the construction area, though it’s unclear whether that means the heavier phase of construction is complete.
Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t announced a specific opening date for the new dock. The Meg Gilbert Crofton ferryboat itself isn’t expected to join the fleet until sometime in 2027.
