Every other year, Disney hosts an event that is a must-attend for those who love everything to do with The House of Mouse — the D23 Expo. D23 is the official Disney fan club, and those who attend the D23 Expo — the ultimate Disney fan event — will be some of the first people to hear about new and exciting things coming to not only the Disney theme parks, but also to Disney+ and movie theaters. This year’s D23 Expo will be no different, and now we are learning some of the topics that will be discussed at the Disney and Pixar panel.
Disney and Pixar are truly an incredible pairing and have come up with some iconic films, including the Toy Story franchise, Coco, Wall-E, Soul, and UP. The studios are showing no signs of slowing down and have several movies planned for release next year. D23 shared more about what the panel will discuss and gave the following information on its website:
On Friday, September 9, thousands of Disney fans will be welcomed to Hall D23 for a special look at upcoming films and series. Pixar Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter and Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee will present never-before-seen-footage, surprise announcements, musical performances, and appearances by all-star voice talent from the studios’ upcoming slate of original animated films and series.
Attendees will get an inside look at Pixar’s unique, perspective-shifting, long-form series Win or Lose, which launches on Disney+ next year. Peter Sohn, who will direct Pixar’s 2023 feature Elemental, will transport fans to a city where fire-, water-, land-, and air-residents live side by side.
Disney Animation’s Academy Award-winning director Don Hall will journey alongside fans deep into an uncharted and treacherous land with Strange World—releasing November 23. Disney Animation and their collaborators from the Pan-African comic book company Kugali will reveal new details about Iwájú, a long-form sci-fi series set in Lagos, Nigeria, that launches on Disney+ next year.
In addition to that panel, there will also be a panel celebrating the magic of one of Walt Disney Studios’ newest films, Encanto. There will be behind-the-scenes footage and some secret special Guests and surprises. There will also be a panel where Disney will share the first look at its Zootopia show coming to Disney+. The show will be based on the successful 2016 film of the same name that starred Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman.
This year’s D23 Expo will take place on September 9, 10, and 11 at the Anaheim Convention Center and there are tickets still one-day tickets available for Sunday, September 11. It is important to note that you must be a D23 member in order to purchase the tickets. A Gold Membership is available for $100, which will get you cheaper tickets, but a free membership will still allow you to purchase tickets. Those attending the Expo also have the opportunity to purchase discounted theme park tickets to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.
