Disney CONFIRMS Classic Hotel Will Get a Pixar Makeover!
When Walt Disney first welcomed everyone to the Happiest Place on Earth, there was not a Disney-themed hotel Guests could stay at. However, just a few months later — in October 1955 — the Disneyland hotel opened its doors. Since then, two more hotels have been opened at the Disneyland Resort. In 1984, Disney opened the Paradise Pier Hotel, and in 2001 — just one month before the opening of Disney California Adventure Park — Disney opened the luxurious Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
Over the years, these three Resort hotels have remained largely unchanged. However, that is about to change. Disney has announced that its Paradise Pier Hotel will be getting a Pixar-themed makeover! Disney Parks Blog shared more news about the exciting change.
Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel will soon begin a transformation, with an all-new theme! The reimagining of the hotel will weave the artistry of Pixar into its comfortable, contemporary setting. Guests will gain a new perspective on some of their favorite Pixar worlds and characters through carefully curated artwork, and décor that reveals the creative journey of the artists who helped bring these stories to life.
Guests will be welcomed into whimsical character moments, like the iconic, playful Pixar Lamp balancing atop its ball in the lobby (as pictured in this artist concept rendering). Stay tuned, as we will share much more about this project soon!
At first, the rumors were that Paradise Pier hotel would be getting a Toy Story makeover and be similar to the hotels at both the Shanghai Disney and Tokyo Disney Resorts. However, a Pixar retheme makes a lot more sense for this particular Resort. When Disney California Adventure Park opened in 2001, it had an area themed after the quintessential California beach boardwalks, Paradise Pier was themed the same way.
However, in 2018, Disney closed Paradise Pier and reopened it as the newly themed Pixar Pier — which featured the Lamplight Lounge, the Incredi-Coaster, Jessie’s Critter Carousel, Toy Story Midway Mania, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, and more. Disney giving Paradise Pier Hotel a Pixar makeover will fall in line with the new theming of the Park.
When Disney announced that it would be changing Paradise Pier Hotel, it said that the retheme would include more upscale features, much like The Art of Marvel Hotel. The Art of Marvel Hotel opened at the Disneyland Paris Resort last summer, and Guests can’t get enough. The new Pixar Hotel does not have an opening date at this time, but Disney promised that more information is on the way!
