In March 2021, Disney announced that Disneyland Resort would possibly be undergoing a major transformation. The massive project is called DisneylandForward and, if Disney gets all the approvals it needs, would take the Resort to the next level. With DisneylandForward, Disney wants to bring in new lands, new attractions, new shopping areas, and maybe even new hotels. The project would be done on top of the huge change that the Downtown Disney District is currently going through.
While DisneylandForward has not fully been approved yet, it seems like Disney is already planning on bringing a big rennovation to one of its hotels. Disneyland Resort currently has three hotels on property — Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. According to some sources, Disney is planning on taking Paradise Pier hotel and converting it into one themed after the hit Pixar film, Toy Story.
News of the change was reported by The DisInsider, which claimed several sources had confirmed the change to them. According to The DisInsider:
We have learned from sources at the Disneyland Resort that the hotel is getting a retheme to Pixar’s iconic Toy Story franchise. It’s still in the very early stages, but we hear cast members were notified Tuesday of the decision.
If what the Cast Members are saying is true, this would be the third Toy Story hotel created by Disney. A Toy Story hotel currently exists at both Tokyo Disney Resort and Shanghai Disney. Shanghai Disney’s Toy Story hotel has been open since 2016, and the Tokyo Disney Toy Story hotel opened just a few weeks ago.
Of the three Disneyland Resort Hotels, Paradise Pier is the one that many feel could use an update. While the hotel’s theme did fit in with Disney California Adventure Park — which had its own Paradise Pier — it really doesn’t anymore. In 2018, Paradise Pier closed at the theme park and the area was changed into Pixar Pier, which would make a Toy Story hotel a logical move.
Disney has not released any information on the hotel at this time. They have not confirmed that the hotel is going to undergo the massive retheme, when the project would start, or when they hope to have work completed.
