Back in November 2021, the world was taken by storm when Disney released its newest film, Encanto. Encanto told the story of Mirabel Madrigal, the only non-magical born member of her family. While not having a special power like the other Madrigals made Mirabel feel like she was less-than, in the end, she realized that what made her different was what made her special. Fans fell in love with the story, the songs, the vibrant colors, and the film’s gorgeous Colombian location.
Encanto quickly became the rage for a ton of Disney fans. They could not stop listening to the catchy music and streaming the film on Disney+. They were quickly begging for Encanto to become a part of the Disney Parks. Disney executives heard them and obliged. Mirabel Madrigal was soon seen at Disney California Adventure Park, then made her way over to Adventureland. Encanto merchandise also quickly made its way to both the East and West Coast theme parks, as well as shopDisney.
In February, just 3 months after the film’s release, Encanto creator Lin Manuel Miranda — who is also responsible for the hit Broadway play Hamilton — shared that he had spoken to Disney CEO Bob Chapek about bringing an Encanto attraction to the theme parks. Miranda said that he told Chapek he would love for Guests to be able to walk through the Casita that the Madrigal’s lived in. He also mentioned a ride through attraction — possibly one like Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at California Adventure.
Well, now we have even more exciting news to share. On Thursday, April 28, Miranda attended the Hispanic Federation’s annual gala. On the red carpet, he spoke to Insider and confirmed that an Encanto attraction is indeed in the works! Miranda was vague when asked, saying only:
“The Imagineers are on it. I don’t know what they do or where they live, but I know they’re on it.”
While we don’t have any specific details, we do know that Disneyland is currently in the midst of completely retheming Tarzan’s Treehouse at Disneyland Park. The walkthrough attraction has been closed for months, with Disney announcing just a couple of days ago that it was changing and would no longer be Tarzan’s Treehouse.
So, if we add the retheme of a walkthrough attraction to the fact that Lin Manuel Miranda wants a walkthrough Encanto attraction…could we have our answer to what’s happening at Disneyland? There has been a lot of chatter that Tarzan’s Treehouse will become an Encanto attraction, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Would you love to see an Encanto attraction at Disney Parks?
