Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is temporarily closed due to the unusually cold weather hitting Central Florida. The park has announced a two-day closure on January 20 and 21, 2025, with plans to reopen on January 22. However, with temperatures expected to remain low and rain in the forecast, there’s a chance the closure could extend further.
Blizzard Beach isn’t the only attraction affected by the cold snap. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is currently closed for its routine seasonal refurbishment, while Universal’s Volcano Bay has also shut down due to the chilly temperatures and will remain closed through at least January 23. These closures remind visitors that even Florida isn’t immune to colder weather disruptions, especially during the winter months.
The weather forecast for the week isn’t looking favorable for outdoor activities, with highs hovering in the mid-50s and lows dipping into the 40s. Wind speeds of 10-15 mph and rain chances above 80% make it difficult for guests to enjoy water-based attractions comfortably. While Disney World’s theme parks remain open, guests may find some outdoor attractions temporarily paused if conditions worsen.
Cold weather at Disney World doesn’t just impact water parks—it can also lead to reduced operating hours for outdoor rides, dining areas, and entertainment. Attractions such as Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom often close due to lower demand when temperatures drop, while outdoor shows may be modified or canceled. Additionally, chilly weather affects transportation systems like the ferry and monorails, which may experience delays.
For visitors navigating the parks in colder weather, it’s best to come prepared. Layers are essential, and many guests opt for warm beverages and indoor attractions to escape the chill. The cooler temperatures also bring unique opportunities, such as lower crowds and more comfortable waits for popular indoor rides like Space Mountain or Frozen Ever After.
Although Florida is known for its warm climate, winter surprises do happen. Whether it’s packing extra layers or adjusting plans to focus on indoor attractions, being flexible is key to making the most of a Disney vacation during unexpected cold spells.
