Walt Disney World Resort has announced a planned refurbishment for the Frozen Ever After ride, set to begin on Saturday, November 2, 2024. While this closure was initially expected to last until November 6, recent reports have indicated that the ride may remain open during this period.
The EPCOT attraction has faced scrutiny ever since it took over the Norway World Showcase Pavilion’s original Maelstrom ride. Some Disney Parks fans embrace the new Frozen (2013) theme and Disney Princess character involvement, while others express nostalgia for the previous attraction.
Maelstrom’s Transformation
Frozen Ever After is a captivating boat ride that takes guests on an enchanting journey through the well-known tale of Frozen. The storyline starts with Olaf and Sven excitedly greeting guests as they make their way to Elsa’s ice palace.
Grand Pabbie the troll retells key moments from the popular 2013 film before a breathtaking scene with Queen Elsa singing “Let It Go.” After leaving Elsa’s ice palace, the snow monster Marshmallow pushes guests down the ride’s biggest drop.
Frozen Ever After took over Maelstrom, which was based on Viking lore and Nordic folktales. It came as part of the integration of multiple Disney properties throughout the EPCOT World Showcase, like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France Pavilion.
Future of Frozen Ever After at EPCOT
Despite initially announcing the Frozen Ever After refurbishment earlier this year, Walt Disney World Resort appears to have removed it from its official website. Still, some outlets have reported that the refurbishment is going forward as recently as last week.
Walt Disney World Resort offers several avenues to keep guests informed, such as its official website and the My Disney Experience app. Guests should check these platforms for the most up-to-date scheduling information.

Maelstrom was a stupid, and not related to Disney. Frozen is much better. It is not only based (loosely) on Norway, it’s also a Disney related creation.
