Disney’s Test Track has been a cornerstone of EPCOT since its debut in 1999. Replacing World of Motion, the ride was designed to showcase the future of automotive technology, taking guests on a high-speed journey through a simulated vehicle-testing facility.

Now, Test Track is undergoing its second major transformation, with Disney planning to unveil Test Track 3.0 in 2025.

The History of Test Track

Test Track was introduced as part of EPCOT’s ongoing mission to showcase the future of innovation. Sponsored by General Motors (later Chevrolet), the ride allowed guests to experience what it’s like to test a vehicle’s endurance, speed, and safety. From rough road simulations to high-speed loops, Test Track offered a thrilling and educational experience that perfectly aligned with EPCOT’s original mission of blending entertainment with education.

In 2012, Test Track received its first major update, transforming the attraction into Test Track 2.0.

This version allowed guests to design their own virtual vehicles in the queue area, which they could then test on the track during the ride. The futuristic, digital interface was a hit with fans, and Test Track 2.0 became one of the most popular attractions in EPCOT’s Future World.

Now, with the ongoing transformation of EPCOT, Test Track is being reimagined once again. Disney has announced that Test Track 3.0 will blend elements of the original World of Motion with modern technology, creating an experience that pays homage to the past while looking toward the future.

What To Expect from Test Track 3.0

One of the most exciting aspects of Test Track 3.0 is the return of elements inspired by World of Motion, the original EPCOT attraction that Test Track replaced. While details are still emerging, Disney has hinted that the new version will include show scenes that reference the history of transportation, blending nostalgia with innovation.

The exterior of the attraction is also set to undergo a major overhaul. Concept art reveals a more natural, organic design, with sections of the ride taking place in wooded environments and outdoor scenes. This is a significant departure from the current industrial aesthetic of Test Track, offering a more immersive and visually striking experience for guests.

In addition to these visual changes, Test Track 3.0 will feature updated ride scenes that showcase the latest advancements in automotive technology. These scenes will take guests on a journey through the future of transportation, highlighting the innovations that will shape the cars of tomorrow. The queue area is also being reimagined, with six new exhibits that celebrate the people and technologies behind modern vehicles.

Thanks to recent photos from Bioreconstruct, we have a sneak peek at the ongoing construction around Test Track. One of the most noticeable changes is the demolition of the ride’s original entrance, which is being replaced with a new, futuristic overhang. Steel supports have also been installed along the track, signaling that significant structural changes are in progress.

While much of the construction is hidden behind walls, the photos give a good sense of the scale of the transformation. The new exterior design is expected to give Test Track a fresh, modern look that aligns with EPCOT’s overall aesthetic.

EPCOT’s Broader Transformation

Test Track’s reimagining is just one part of the massive changes taking place at EPCOT. In recent years, the park has introduced several new attractions as part of its transformation, including Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. These additions reflect Disney’s commitment to modernizing EPCOT while staying true to its original mission of celebrating human achievement and technological innovation.

As EPCOT continues to evolve, Test Track will remain a central part of the park’s identity. With its blend of thrilling experiences, cutting-edge technology, and nostalgic elements, Test Track 3.0 promises to be a must-see attraction for years to come.
