The Sherman Brothers tribute that defined Main Street Cinema during Disneyland Resort‘s 70th anniversary has officially given way to Mickey Mouse, as the historic Disneyland Park venue reopens with a fresh lineup dedicated entirely to the company’s most famous character.
A New Chapter for the Historic Theater
Main Street Cinema had been closed for the past several weeks, coinciding with the conclusion of Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary celebration. During the milestone festivities, the theater screened So Much That We Share, a film honoring Robert and Richard Sherman, the songwriting duo who composed some of Disney’s most iconic music alongside Walt Disney himself, including the theme for “it’s a small world.” Richard Sherman, who died in 2024, penned one final verse for that song before his passing, which was later added to the attraction as part of the Disneyland70 festivities.
Now that the anniversary programming has ended, Main Street Cinema reopened Monday, August 31, returning to its longtime role as a home for Mickey Mouse shorts. This time, though, the six-screen theater is running a more focused lineup, featuring exclusively shorts from the 2013 Mickey Mouse television series.
Fresh Signage Celebrates the Mouse
A photo posted by WDW News Today on Facebook shows the theater’s marquee restored to read “Now Showing Mickey Mouse – Star of the Silver Screen.” A yellow banner underneath displays multiple Mickey Mouse illustrations alongside the phrases “Now Showing,” “It Was All Started By A Mouse,” and “Chock-Full Of Laughter And Fun!”
Other signage wrapped around the building features additional Mickey artwork paired with text reading “Six Separate Screens,” “Six Separate Films,” “Come In and See Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse,” “Comedy! Adventure! Romance! Comedy!,” and “Thrills! Comedy! Pathos! Comedy!”
The entrance columns are similarly dressed, wrapped in posters tied to the 2013 shorts that read: “Main Street Cinema Proudly Presents / Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse / Six Different Cartoons / Six Different Screens / Experience The Fun-Filled Antics Of The World’s Most Famous Mouse / Continuous And Simultaneous Showings / See It Here! / Harmonic Mercuivision / Exclusive Engagement!”
What’s Inside
Tilly, the theater’s longtime ticket-taker mannequin, remains at her post inside the ticket booth, now outfitted in a mask and Halloween-themed costume for the season. The interior walls continue to showcase Mickey Mouse’s cinematic legacy through posters referencing The Band Concert (1935), Steamboat Willie (1928), Fantasia (1940), Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Mickey’s Philharmagic, and the discontinued Mickey Mouse Revue. That attraction ran at Magic Kingdom Park until 1983, then transferred to Tokyo Disneyland, where it operated until 2009.
Aside from the new film selection, the theater’s physical layout remains unchanged. Southern California Disney Park guests can still find the familiar benches and central viewing platform, where all six screens play simultaneously.
