Universal Studios Florida is no stranger to change. In an effort to outplay its Theme Park neighbor down I-4, Universal Orlando is preparing to open one of their most significant projects to date. Epic Universe will open next year to much anticipation, but that isn’t the only change happening at the evergrowing Resort. Universal Orlando just announced that a once popular land under construction would also open next year, providing brand-new experiences for visiting Guests.
As Universal Studios Orlando attempts to draw Guests away from Walt Disney World, many are clutching their pearls in anticipation of Epic Universe. However, the newest information provided by Universal regarding the evolution of the former KidZone location is also exciting. Wood Woodpecker’s KidZone closed in this year and has undergone renovations to bring the area of the Park to new life.
Universal Studios heavily relies on Halloween Horror Nights, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and Jurassic Park to draw Guests attention away from Disney World. Yet, Dreamworks is one of their most popular properties. Including characters like Shrek, Donkey, and Po from Kung-Fu Panda and Trolls, Universal has plenty of opportunity to create an imaginative play place geared towards children in the renovated land. That’s precisely what they will do with the old Woody Woodpecker-themed play area.
Dreamworks Land at Universal Studios Orlando
The new area, scheduled to open in 2024, will be themed around Dreamworks properties. Universal’s latest land will include interactive play spaces and unique attractions. Details remain limited, but with the changes Universal is making to keep up with Disney, a new Universal Studios land is big news. Fresh and exciting attractions are in high demand, and Universal Orlando seems to undertand that.

Universal Studios Orlando and its sister Park Islands of Adventure currently draw big crowds. Many of thee Guests were once Disney Park faithful. Many feel that the Parks down I-4 offer a more adult-oriented experience. With high-speed coasters, classic IP like The Mummy, and a price tag easier to swallow, many Theme Park fans have switched over the years. Universal Orlando stands on its own two feet compared to Walt Disney World. However, it may put Disney to shame next year when Universal’s new Park, Epic Universe opens including Super Nintendo World.
Universal’s new Park (not land) will include new roller-coasters, a build-in Resort, and a new Wizarding World location for Guests. As Disney fans clamor and plead for a fifth Park, Universal prepares to open a brand new featuring Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon, and much more. Adding a unique collection of experiences in 2024 will be a game changer in the Disney versus Universal Studios race. This news also comes on the eve of the opening of their new Minion Land. With their new Theme Park and the new Dreamworks new Land addition, Universal may be the new king in Florida.
