With the announcement of all the exciting changes coming to Disneyland Paris, rumors of a new Lion King land went viral online. But what is the basis of the rumor, and is there any merit to it?
Rumors have long been a part of the tapestry of the Disney fandom, engaging fans with their whispers and speculative musings. These stories have a way of igniting the imaginations of fans worldwide. From the rumor of Walt Disney World Resort considering the removal of the iconic Cinderella Castle to the speculations surrounding the potential closure of the beloved Animal Kingdom theme park, the Disney community has been no stranger to the presence of such rumors over the years.
As avid Disney Park fans would know, many of these rumors stemmed from satirical websites or humorous posts that were intended to be taken as just that: a joke.
But these aren’t the only kinds of rumors that have made their way across the fandom. Rumors have also arisen from Artificial Intelligence: devoted fans will remember the AI craze with movie posters that caused a frenzy.
There were multiple movie posters, including some particularly shocking ones, such as one about the Holocaust, that caused quite a stir among fans.
However, sometimes, rumors have found legs because of very real occurrences at the parks. That was the case with this recent rumor that a Lion King land was coming to Disneyland Paris, particularly to the soon-to-be-renovated Walt Disney Studios Park (now called Disney Adventure World).
Today's news release (leak) of the next Disney Adventure World project is the long rumored Lion King boat ride. Lion King and vacations to Africa are popular with the French so the choice makes sense. Ride will be cold in the wet French weather. #DisneylandParis pic.twitter.com/v94FbImDsX

A fan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to explain that “Today’s news release (leak) of the next Disney Adventure World project is the long rumored Lion King boat ride. Lion King and vacations to Africa are popular with the French so the choice makes sense. Ride will be cold in the wet French weather. #DisneylandParis“
Unfortunately, as many fans themselves pointed out on the post, the rumor is just that: a rumor. The image that fans have been sharing of the possible Lion King land is actually AI-generated, much like the aforementioned movie posters.
While some may feel like it’s obvious that the land was not an official announcement, it’s certainly fair to be excited at the prospect of the offering.
At present, there are no lands particularly devoted to The Lion King franchise despite it being one of Disney’s most popular. (As some would know, Disney’s Lion King live-action remake is one of the Walt Disney Company’s highest-grossing films of all time.)
However, fans have often made do with the Africa section of Walt Disney World Resort’s Animal Kingdom park. It’s no surprise then that some were incredibly excited at the possibility of this land.
This said, for now, Disney has not confirmed any such news and until then, this remains a fervent hope of fans from all around the world.
