Jurassic Park’s New Theme Park Experience May Feature “Bone Shaker” Coaster

The Jurassic Park franchise continues to thrive more than three decades after Steven Spielberg’s groundbreaking original film. With six movies collectively earning over $6 billion worldwide, this dino-centric series has established itself across multiple media, from animated series to theme park rides and, of course, video games.

Universal Studios has further cemented its connection to the franchise with attractions like Jurassic Park: The Ride, Jurassic World: The Ride, and the VelociCoaster. These experiences, often featuring thrilling roller coasters, highlight fans’ desire to immerse themselves in the world of dinosaurs.

While the Jurassic World side of the franchise has increasingly moved beyond its theme park origins, shifting focus toward dinosaurs coexisting with humans, the upcoming “Jurassic Park: Survival” promises a return to the past.

This highly anticipated first-person adventure game from Saber Interactive and Universal City Studios is set just 24 hours after the events of the 1993 film, allowing players to explore a fully realized Isla Nublar, complete with both familiar and unseen locations from the ill-fated park.

Details from Universal and Saber last year, including an internal Q&A with executive producer John Melchior and creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick, shed even more light on what players can expect. Gamers will take on the role of Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist left stranded on Isla Nublar after the evacuation.

With dinosaurs roaming freely, survival is the primary goal, but that doesn’t mean the game won’t offer some unexpected thrills. Given the setting, it’s possible players could find themselves interacting with elements of Jurassic Park’s abandoned attractions.

This poses an intriguing question—could “Jurassic Park: Survival” feature a roller coaster sequence? Theme park rides have long been synonymous with the franchise, and given the game’s setting, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to imagine a high-stakes moment set aboard a derelict coaster.

Fans of the franchise’s gaming history might recall “Bone Shaker,” a roller coaster from Telltale’s 2011 title, “Jurassic Park: The Game.” That ride, which was left unfinished on the island, played a key role in one of the game’s more intense sequences. While “Survival” has no direct ties to Telltale’s game, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Saber Interactive borrow certain thematic elements, much like how it’s drawing inspiration from both Crichton’s best-selling novel and Spielberg’s film.

It’s also possible “Jurassic Park: Survival” could incorporate real-world attractions from Universal Studios parks. While the game isn’t meant to replace the thrill of an actual theme park visit, it does offer fans a unique way to step into the world of Isla Nublar, exploring the island in a way no ride ever could.

With no official release date yet, “Jurassic Park: Survival” remains one of the most anticipated titles for fans of the franchise. Whether it includes a heart-pounding roller coaster sequence or not, one thing’s for certain—it’s bound to be a wild ride.
