The Jurassic Park franchise has always excelled at creating compelling female characters who shine amidst the chaos of dinosaur-filled adventures. From Laura Dern’s Dr. Ellie Sattler to Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing, the series consistently delivers strong female leads facing life-or-death challenges.
Now, the upcoming film Jurassic World Rebirth and the video game “Jurassic Park: Survival” are continuing this tradition with characters like Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) and the mysterious Dr. Maya Joshi.
While Johansson’s Zora will spearhead the new film, Dr. Maya Joshi will take center stage in “Jurassic Park: Survival,” a first-person action-adventure game that places players back on Isla Nublar just 24 hours after the catastrophic events of Jurassic Park (1993).
Players take on the role of Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist stranded on the island after failing to evacuate. The synopsis promises “thrilling first-person action” and a narrative never before explored in the franchise. Fans can expect to encounter dinosaurs with adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond as they navigate this new storyline.
However, despite the character being created for the game, fans have been speculating about whether Joshi may have already been part of the original film’s lore.
The “InGen lab” scene from the 1993 movie, during which the main characters are taken on a tour of the park’s behind-the-scenes dinosaur creation, shows an unnamed female scientist in the background, and some fans believe this could be Joshi, potentially linking her to the franchise in an unexpected way.

But despite the excitement surrounding the game, the connection between Joshi and the original Jurassic Park remains nothing more than a theory. Some fans argue that the unnamed background scientist and Joshi share only superficial similarities. Others believe this potential tie-in would be a clever nod by the game developers.
However, as we’ve seen in previous installments, the franchise often introduces new characters and plot elements that enrich its lore without rewriting history.
The biggest mystery surrounding Joshi is how she failed to evacuate Isla Nublar with the rest of the park staff. Was she engrossed in research? Did she miss the announcement entirely? These unanswered questions only heighten anticipation for the game’s release.
